Black Friday Deals Will Come Early For Canadians

Early Black Friday Deals for Canadians

With six days fewer between American Thanksgiving and Christmas than most years, retailers have stepped up their Black Friday promotions in anticipation of a shortened shopping season. Traditionally reserved for the day after American Thanksgiving, some retailers began offering Black Friday deals as early as Nov. 1. Experts at Morgan Stanley believe that retail prices will be slashed to some of the lowest prices since 2008.

For example, Wal-Mart is pulling out their door-buster deals on laptops, tablets, and televisions. Amazon
is also offering daily deals, and anxious buyers can even subscribe to emails so they get first notice of what’s available. For example, games, speakers, watches and shoes were just some of the bargains the online, mega-retailer offered on Nov. 2. K-Mart, Toys R Us and Target are just three of the other retailers expected to roll out bargain prices before Black Friday.

Shoppers might wonder if they should shop now or wait for even better bargains on Black Friday. Some experts are speculating that the promoted deals might not even be available by the time Black Friday rolls around because they will already have sold out. Experts report that another trend this year will be an increase in online shopping.

Group Urges Canadian Shoppers To Stay Home

Greater Toronto Area shoppers are being urged to spend their hard-earned money in Canada by shopping locally during the American “Black Friday” blitz on Nov. 30.

CTV News reports, Yellow Pages Group launched an initiative Monday called “Shop the Neighbourhood,” encouraging GTA residents to buy from local stores between the popular American “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” events held on Nov. 29 and Dec. 1 respectively.

At the kickoff Monday evening, Ontario deputy premier Deb Matthews compared shoppers to voters.

“They forget that they actually vote on what stores stay open and what stores close every time they go shopping,” Matthews said.

“So if people started to think about their shopping dollars as votes for what businesses thrive or survive, I think they might think differently about where they shop and how they shop.”

Yellow Pages senior vice-president Doug Clarke hopes shoppers will spend their money locally during this holiday season.

“It doesn’t mean folks still aren’t going across the border to buy some stuff because there are good deals, but we’d like to support our local community and economy as well,” Clarke said.
