States Postal Service May Cut Saturday Mail

No more Saturday mail? It is hard to believe, but we all knew that something was going to have to change.

The financial problems of the United States Postal Service has led to a proposal to do away with mail delivery on Saturdays. The small increases in stamps and postage over time have not been enough to help the Postal Service out of it’s increasing financial difficulties.

Why the financial strain on the United States Post Office? The invention of the internet and all things electronic. Most people pay bills online, send greeting cards online, and instead of sending a letter by mail it has become much quicker and easier to send an email. The art of letter writing is mostly a thing of the past and the United States Postal Service is feeling the effects of the technology.

Who is most affected by doing away with Saturday mail? The customers of course, but also the many men and women of the United States Post Office who rely on the extra money they earn in overtime when they work on Saturdays. Don’t expect your mail to not be there this Saturday though, the proposal still has to go through Congress.
