A new Lane Bryant ad which features a plus size model in panties and bra has been banned by Fox and ABC. The ad shows the model in her bedroom as she is preparing to go out on a date. It advertises the Lane Bryant line of lingerie, Cacique, and it has brewed a controversy as to just if the ad is too racy or not.
The commercial is similar to that of Victoria Secret but the networks stated that they believed that is was discriminatory towards plus size models and plus size women in general. Ashley Graham, the model who was featured in the commerical, has gone on record and talked about the decision to censor the advertisement.
“It’s just a bit prejudice. They believe that it is discriminatory but they are discriminating for not allowing it air. It was certainly done in taste. Victoria Secret girls can flaunt themselves in their panites all that they want to. Just because it was a bigger girl, the very first thing that they think of is that it is offensive.”, said Graham. Lane Bryant has voiced their frustration concerning the ban stating that the ad was not any more racy that what is shown on soaps and shows like Desperate Housewives.
I’m gonna want to have two Big Mac meals (supersized) when I see the Victoria’s Secret commercial and then not want to eat after I see the Lane Bryant.
It really sucks, that this ban took place, but it doesnt surprise me. The the powers that be can exert the presure needed to progress their aggenda of avoiding reality. The reality shows you see on tv are any thing but real. They think we should all have this very unrealistic idea of how the world is, their Idea, which isnt reality at all. People, get a clue and use your gray matter! Plus size is not necessarily synonymous with unhealthy. One can be unhealthy at 90 lbs. or 190 lbs. Does the propensity for health issues increase with size? Yes. However, it all depends on the individual, their family history, fitness level and nutritional intake.
For those who are offended/disgusted by a plus-size lingerie commercial, I have a few choice words: change the channel! The wonder of living in a democracy means you can utilize your remote control for your own edification.
To that nurse earlier who scolded “overweight” people and their supporters for being proud of their appearance… Some people are overweight because of their desire to be stick thin (i.e. yoyo dieting.) I doubt most people really want to be overweight and/or unhealthy; and if they’re happy with their appearance, more power to them – as long as if they’re healthy.

I am disgusted at some of the comments that plus size= overweight. If any of you had a clue (which you clearly don’t), anything in the fashion world over a size 2 is considered “plus”. There are models who have died trying to starve themselves to some f-ed up “ideal”. Women’s bodies are all shaped differently, and just because a woman isn’t a beanpole with no hips, tits or butt doesn’t mean she’s automatically beautiful. To the man with with the size 00 wife, good for you. (but it sounds like you’re holding that up as an accomplishment) but don’t hate on women who have more meat on their bones. To the so-called nurse who claims that plus size equals overweight, you damn well ought to know better–BMI is not always indicative of health, as it does not take into account bone structure. The fashion world believes that unless you’re at least 20% under your recommended BMI (incredibly unhealthy) that you’re a fatty. The hateful comments on here just goes to perpetuate the cycle of self-loathing that women have been putting up with for centuries. Women, love your bodies. Don’t let some dim-witted fashion designer or shallow man tell you your body is not beautiful, no matter if you’re a size 2 or a size 16. going from being a size 4/6 about 6 years ago, as i went from age 20-26 i progressively began to put on some weight. when i was 23 i had an accident that left my back injured and could no longer exercise like i used to. i got up to a size 16 about 2 months ago when i decided to lose weight. ive lost 20 pounds since i started just reducing my calories and increasing my walking. sometimes there are situations in which women cannot be gym poster women or starve themselves like i did at one point and still be healty. its unfair to make them think there is something wrong with how they look even when they dont have much choice about how much their body will lose at a certain age under certain circumstances. its mean and hurtful to so many womens self esteem to know that they are censored based on weight. its a shame.

Yes I am a plus-size woman and in the many, many clothing magazines I receive from Roaman’s, Silhouettes, etc., rarely do I see a woman of my size modeling the clothes these entities want me to purchase. Most of the time, if I do order something, I end up returning it because it doesn’t’ fit, doesn’t look on me as it does in the ad, or it’s poorly made because of the falsifying of women’s sizes.
Lane Bryant has finally done what no other company dares to do and that’s show an advertisement with a woman with the physical attributes of their target consumer. I applaud Lane Bryant!
As for offensive commercials, the powers that be, should think long and hard about what is offensive. I find it disgusting to see the ads for tampons, pleasure inducing condoms and the sexual explosiveness of creams and condiments!

I watched the ad also, and it was no more suggestive than any other ad out there trying to sell women’s underwear. Or those yogurt commercials implying that if you eat their yogurt, you’ll fit into a tiny bikini! Please face it, these ads are meant to be suggestive and if I run out and buy those outfits from Lane Bryant thinking I’ll look that good in them, then so be it! I wish I did.
Instead of us focusing on something this trivial folks, let’s try putting this energy into something real. What’s happening to our planet? Tornadoes, tsunamis’, volcanoes erupting… people something’s going on with the earth and that’s where this kind of attention needs to be – not on a commercial for panties!
pitcher, I married a nurse who is athletic and is cognizant of her weight. That is how she has remained a 00 to 0 for the 8 years we have been together. It is this apathy to which I was referring in my previous post. All these “plus size” women who trash the “rail thin” women and assume they have eating disorders, or are on drugs/alcohol. It is simple, exercise, eat right and in moderation and you will not have to make up politically correct names for your weight problem. I don’t care if the definition of “plus” starts at 12 or 16. It is a sliding scale that the overweight use to justify their size.

If overweight is beautiful, then why aren’t overweight women priority? And if skinny is so ugly, why are skinny girls sought after so much? Who gets paid more a skinny model, or a fat model? Fact: Skinny girls usually have more backside, chest, and healthy muscle mass but less tummy IN PROPORTION (32:24:32) and thus usually have more curvilinear figures than a woman of larger size. Not all of these models who are thin have gained being thin through hours upon hours at the gym. Some of these thin models have died because of serious eating disorder called bulimia. I am 16 years old, 5’7, and 141 lbs. When I go into a store I have to say society makes me feel huge. I’m only a size 9/11 but half the stores I go into have cut my size from the shelves. I can NEVER be a size 2, because I am big boned it’s just not possible.
