A new Lane Bryant ad which features a plus size model in panties and bra has been banned by Fox and ABC. The ad shows the model in her bedroom as she is preparing to go out on a date. It advertises the Lane Bryant line of lingerie, Cacique, and it has brewed a controversy as to just if the ad is too racy or not.
The commercial is similar to that of Victoria Secret but the networks stated that they believed that is was discriminatory towards plus size models and plus size women in general. Ashley Graham, the model who was featured in the commerical, has gone on record and talked about the decision to censor the advertisement.
“It’s just a bit prejudice. They believe that it is discriminatory but they are discriminating for not allowing it air. It was certainly done in taste. Victoria Secret girls can flaunt themselves in their panites all that they want to. Just because it was a bigger girl, the very first thing that they think of is that it is offensive.”, said Graham. Lane Bryant has voiced their frustration concerning the ban stating that the ad was not any more racy that what is shown on soaps and shows like Desperate Housewives.

For the first time on a TV Commercial you get to see what Most Real people look like and you want to ban it!! This is what the Young Girls in America need to see. THAT YOU DON’T have to make yourself SICK (Anorexic)trying to keep up with size 0-2 models to have the Beauty,Intelligence, and the Wonderful Person you have within you. “HOORAY FOR THE LANE BRYANT COMMERICAL”
Ha! I would like to take a look at those men behind the round table!! I bet most are ROUND, themself!!
Wish I had a nice enough figure to pose for an ad like the one those prudes banned. As a plus-sized woman, I am disappointed with the way this country is going. It has always been puritanical and chauvinistic, but this takes the gold medal. Meanwhile, the rich and/or powerful men are behaving like the vultures they really are. Shame on everyone involved in this ridiculous sham.
I gotta say I think the ad got banned not because the model was plus size, But because her boobs were real and really BIG! Fox and ABC don’t what to make the skinny models feel Bad. Gotta say I’m sooo going bra shopping at lane bryant this weekend.
People actually watch network TV? I thought that went the way of the dinosaurs.
Just another example of the big breasted girl in high school being considered a whore.
Yes, people actually watch network tv. Not everyone can pay for cable or dish network.
I agree that it is simply ridiculous that a plus sized girl can’t be on tv when that smut called “dancing with the stars” can be played. I’m not a plus sized girl either. I’m 5’11″, 160 pounds and a size 8 according to my doctor I’m completely healthy and according to many men, I look great. It’s disgusting that the media won’t accept “normal” people. And to all the people on here that say it’s someones own fault for being over wieght, SHAME ON YOU! I know many people who are over wieght due to medical conditions and medication (mainly medical steroids). You and your shallow view on life makes me sick.
Not to be rude, you may be healthy but you’re pushing “plus size” and it is sounding like you’re jealous. True, they should allow the ad because there are plenty of scantily clad women in other ads and TV shows. BUT, fact is, people want to see attractive people. And attractive is not necessarily what is reality. It’s what we don’t have.
Huh? 5’11″ 160 lbs and a size 8 is pushing plus size? Are ya KIDDIN’ me? If that’s true, I might as well give it up! At only 3 pounds over my ideal body weight, I was still a size 16! I GUARANTEE you those 3 measly pounds would NOT have taken me down to a size 8 or below! According to your out in left field standards, probably 90% of the women on the PLANET don’t have a chance at not being plus sized!
I would like to know how Dancing With the Stars rates being called smut…Ballroom dancing is very entertaining…Grow up already…
why leave a comment if it takes you all 24 plus hours to aprove some ones comment, because I see you haven’t aproved my first one earlier. why have a comment section it suckes period, I’m a nam vet I want to see my imput know not later.
Wow. Get over yourself. You’re a nam vet and that should give you special fast-lane comment priviledges?? Everyone here waited so … I guess they’re not vets. And oh look at that, your comment is here! Guess time passes when you’re busy being a nam vet.
I think this is absolutely ridiculous! I’m sure this commercial was not near as bad as half the garbage they already show on both of these channels! I’m appalled that they are thinking that that’s “too racy” but yet you practically see people having sex on daytime tv on those stations. Absolutely ridiculous! If you’re not going to show this commercial than don’t show the ones of the anorexic looking models for Victoria’s Secret!
There is not a thing wrong with this ad. Better done and with more class than Victoria Secret. Also seems to me when I was young plus size did not start until you hit size 16. I did not know that a size 12 is now considered a plus size until I caught a GMA show one morning doing a story on how that model was being treated. The model in the as is beautiful and curvy, just as I hear most men describe a beautiful woman. The stations should air the ad and let the viewer’s decide whether to watch it or not.
To all the Plus size ladies out there. MUCH LOVE too you. To the bean poles out there, go get a Whopper and a coke and shut the hell up. BONES are NOT sexy. I don’t watch FIXed TV so it doesn’t matter what they say. ABC just lost me. I will program my TV so the channels don’t even come up. If everyone did that, ABC would really get the message. Also like so one else said earlier, start blasting them with email about how disgusted you are about there decision. Stand up for what you believed in.

I dont think TV or any show, channel, agrees with plus size women and or men, these days.. i think they should look around them and realize that skinny is not in anymore, i dont agree with the victora secert commercials they are all sexual in some kind of way whats wrong with haveing a plue size commercial doing the same thing, its not right…i think skinny or plus size everyone should be created equal…
Ok, I just viewed the ad. First, let me say that I do not like ANY underwear ad. UNDERwear is intended to be worn UNDER the clothing and not to be viewed by the general public! With that said, this ad is no more offensive than Victoria’s Secret ads or any other racy stuff on TV these days. Shoot, Victoria’s Secret does an entire fashion show in prime time, complete with almost completely naked women! What I DO find bothersome — and this is not unique to this ad — is the fact that Lane Bryant chose a woman who is NOT PLUS-SIZED to do an ad for plus-sized clothing! ARGH! I have seen this over and over! If you want to convince me that your brand/line of clothing will look good on me, then put it on models who are more likely to look LIKE ME than not!
Also, to those who talk about plus-size, fat, and unattractive all in the same breath, let me say this. Although I am overweight now, even when I was only 3 lbs over my ideal body weight (according to the BMI charts), I was a size 16! I had one pair of pants that was a size 14, but everything else was a size 16! Size 16 is DEFINITELY plus size, but I was not unhealthy or unattractive because of my weight. My friend, who weighed a good 20lbs MORE than me at the time, was wearing 12′s and 14′s — simply because her body was made differently than mine!
And yet these stations air ads showing the skinny anirexic models in the same thing and that’ ok. Do I hear double standard here ??????
Ed, learn how to spell and then tell us what’s on your mind.
Let’s get it straight, plus size IS overweight; big is NOT beautiful when it affects your health. Having ads that try to glamorize obesity and make it seem okay is not what we need right now. I work as a nurse and our healthcare system is overwhelmed with people whose prevailing problem is being overweight. They are on 15-20 medications for multiple diseases that in most cases could be stopped altogether if the patient would get down to a healthy weight. Let’s not say ‘hooray, plus size’ when you can’t care for yourself, walk, or fit onto a stretcher in the hospital. It’s time to make a change.
Speaking as someone who is not and does not wish to ever be a size 8 or lower…just because your not skin and bones does NOT mean you are obese. These days “plus sized” does not mean “fat”, it means “you’re not a size 2 or less, therfore, we don’t want you seen”. It is bad for people to be unhealthy, but that goes for TOO SKINNY as well.
given that the definition of where “plus size” begins has GONE DOWN, then plus size is not necessarily overweight. didn’t anything over size 16 used to be considered plus size? now it’s over size 12. especially when size 0 even exists.
I agree, it is NOT beautiful when it affects your health – but when it is simply a bit more like the average woman instead of a bobble head figure…
And being disgustingly thin isn’t sending the wrong message? Come on. I’m also an RN in a hospital and I do agree that obesity is a big problem. I will say that I highly doubt Lane Bryant’s ad is promoting obesity in any way. I think that it’s simply promoting there line. Oh, an does this negativity surrounding this ad mean heavier women don’t have a right to feel comfortable in their underwear? They dont have a right to feel sexy? I think that stating the ad is promoting an obese lifestyle is a bit of a stretch. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Period. You are obviously not there intended target audience.
first of all plus size does not mean overweight. 12 or 16 in sizes is considered plus size. there are plenty of people who are at the weight their doctors say they should be at and still where say a size 16 just because not everyones body is the same and not everyone can fit into a size 12 or size 16. If that was the case why don’t we all where size 4′s like alot of very thin women. Second overweight and obese are two different things obese is 50+ lbs more than you should weigh where as overweight could just mean you have a little bit or up to that to lose.
The ad isn’t glorifying obesity as you say it’s just showing that ‘hey look just b/c your not a size 4 or 8 or even 10 doesn’t mean you can’t have pretty or nice lingerie. As for the healthcare system yes there are many people who don’t take control for letting themselves get to that point if,it came about from choices but some have medical problems that make it harder to lose weight w/o alot of medication and i’m sure they aren’t happy at the fact that they have a hard time walking around and can’t do the things that people of a healthier weight can. You also say big is not beautiful if it affects your health, well some people can be of a bigger size than others (b/c we’re all unique not cookie cutter- cutouts) and be healthy so just because your bigger doesn’t mean your not beautiful, you have to define what bigger means, weightlifters etc. The obesity line you are talking about at the end doesn’t apply to those women in the ad.
Being a thick girl, (thank you Nicey) I am healthy. I exercise and eat in moderation. I am 46. But no one believes it. I am a nurse and understand about the dangers. I feel sexy when I wear sexy underwear. Heck yeah. Lets see a beautiful woman with real curves have fun. Bite me if you don’t like it
you are a idiot plus size is different than over weight.
Our healthcare system is overwhelmed by nurses like you that are judgmental of patients and where their differences may have come from. It is time to make a change. We need healthcare professionals that put the “care” back in “healthcare”.
If God intended all to be slim then we all would look alike. So funny how Victoria Secret and have fashion shows and commercials but soon as a woman that does not fit the “society perfect size” is shown now they have issues with the ads. It is what it is, and if you know anything about this type of discrimination you know it when you see it but always remember what goes around comes around.
I saw the ads and I wasn’t offended at all…better than Victoria Secrets ads…in my opinion.. What is wrong with these people……Go Lane Bryant!!
Shame on them – Women come in all shapes and sizes; be it genetics or the absence of willpower when it comes to all things chocolate. I will just conclude with one line – kiss my fat *%& !!!
Why would this ad be any more offensive that the fuit of the loom ad showing a number of women dancing around in bra & panties? Or Victoia Secret models in prime time fashion show? This type of censorship leads our young girls to believe that anything over a size 4 is obese and our yong men to have a warped idea of what women should look like. If “fat is out” when does “The Biggest Loser” go off the air?
Men and women come in ALL sizes and shapes.
Iam 5’7″ 125 lbs the lady in the ad was very beautiful. They show alot more vs ads.
OMG !! What is the matter with that ad? I am a full figure woman and I wish I looked as hot as she does. It seems like if you aren’t skin and bones than you are not considered beautiful or appealing. Give me a break !! Believe it or not, there are men out there who like full figure women and God bless them. It seems like that it is a double standard here.
I have a question Why in stores like Ambercrombie and stuff like that have “Fit” models why won’t it be Overweight people?
Reply To This
because who wants to see a fat chick in bra and panties. If she was cute hell yes, ulgy fuck that.
to CHARLES–and, who would even have the time of day for someone with your vulgar mouth? no lady, and I mean lady, would want you near her, whether she is fat or thin, just knowing you do not know the work respect. by your words you are known, just use women is maybe your motto. I rarely comment on these sites because I have a life, a great one. You need to get your act cleaned up and get a life
I saw the ad and it was done it the very best taste with a very classy lady. Very beautiful I don’t see what all the fuss is about. I just don’t get it! I would rather see ads like this than to see a bag of bones showing all of her nude body now that is just sick. Healthy is in not anorexic looking gals. The media is in denial. Admit it all you ads this Lane Bryant ad was great! Stop hating on big women. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and not all of us think a size zero is beautiful stop! trying to slap that notion in our face every chance you get. Let this ad run this is 2010 stop! the hate listen to the public this is what we want to see more of not the other super thin gals. Get a clue……….DUH!
For once someone (Lane Bryant) shows a real women and they get banned. Lets be honest if this is banned then all other ads like Victoria Secrets should be as well and any other show or commercial that shows anyone on the bra and panties. Plus size women are beautiful. It is a shame that there are few stores for these women and when one does a tasteful ad it is banned. How dare Fox and ABC do this. They should be banned.
I am trying to keep my lunch down just thinking of a plus sized woman wearing panties and bra… Rolls of buttery fat ozing over the safty straps that are ready to snap from the stress being applied to the cables. Will they air brush out the bug bites and cellulite? How about at least the big nasty rolls? Excuse me, I have to go puke! |o(~~~~
Robert. you are a sick dude. stay away from women.
Robert, you’re an idiot. If you’re young and fit then be glad but in time you’ll find that bodies change and yours will too. Just what will you think when some idiot says to you what you’ve said here .. actually, why are you saying this at all. Comments here are about the ad. Keep your analphabetic phobias to yourself.
There are more of us bigger women than the sick looking skinny women who look like they have starved them selfs! We want to feel pretty too.
How unexactable! I can not beliveve that.
Ugh. No fat chicks.
Ugh. You’re stupid.
victoria doesnt keep her ads a secret.once again the networks are trying to force views and standards down the public throat. its not a matter of who should or not be on the ads but who sets the standards. plus size is not in question here. nor is the content…. run the ads!!
I think Lane Bryant is in with the fast food companies, and they only hope to rape us of our money without carring for our health.
How’s the air there on your planet? A bit lacking, I think.
What about the fruit of the loom commercials? They show skinny girls dancing in thier underware. Some shaking their buts to music and so on. Have those been banned?
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED. I am not a Big Girl but a lot of my family/friends are and they are just as beautiful as the skinny girls in the Victoria Secret ads.
But we can have commercials advertising drugs for erectile dysfunction during the dinner hour on ABC. Saw one tonight on ABC world news tonight. Something is wrong here…..
Um yes, because having sex is healthy and worth promoting, being fat and unhealthy is well…NOT healthy and it shouldn’t be promoted. It’s really not hard to figure that one out…
Um yes, because there are all manner of people on this planet, including idiots like you. You’re suggesting that clothes that fit and are comfortable shouldn’t be made for certain people you don’t approve of, or are you aaying that there shouldn’t be any ads for anything or anyone and they should just happen across them. Man, your stupidity hurts and NOT healthy. Stop promoting yourself, it’s really not hard to figure that one out.
I am a full figure women and if ABC and Fox channels feel that do not want to reach that audience then there are other channels I can watch. I have seen plenty of Hanes commercials that are very similar but with a slender model without any concern from the stations that air them
U know I think this rediculous. They should b ashamed of themselves. In reality yes people not just women r on the heavy side. So in some cases women b proud of your curves.
Doesn’t surprise me about the FOX network, but did surprise me about ABC. Both networks should apologize to plus size women about not running the ad. It is definitely discriminating!
I find it ironic that FOX is interested in censoring anything with all its Animation Domination Sunday Night Crazy line-up.
As a woman, I don’t want to see the augmented, teenage girls they exploit on Vics Secret commercials, nor do I want to see the PaDonkaDonks in the Lane Bryant commercial. People, get your heads on straight, either way, its objectifying women.
Selling undergarments objectifies women??? REALLY??! Ah, I see your head is on crooked. Best get that looked at.
The argument over this is absolutly amazing. I understand that the Victoria Secret ads may be desirable and every woman would want to look like that but some just can’t be a size 2. And to those who are calling these women fat and overweight and telling them to cover up. You’re pigs. Just because you find someone as skinny as the Olsen twins attractive doesn’t mean everyone does. Some people enjoy curvy, busty women. Just like some people prefer McDonalds over Burger King. But they aren’t refusing Burger King ads. This isn’t fair.
Love the Google ads placed by the front of this article! All for eating disorders!!
I haven’t seen the ad, but, I was wondering what the bigger Lane Bryant woman was doing that was more exciting/stimulating… or objectionable, I guess, than the little Victoria Secret were allowed to do…???
Good, Who wants to look at a bunch of tub’ets anyhow !!
Gary, go away. No one want to read the sputterings of an idiot. Go on now. Shoo.
Wow…
I was always a really skinny girl, size 0-2, until I was in my late-20s. I could eat anything I wanted, never gained an ounce, and I didn’t realize how lucky I was. After my son was born, my metabolism changed, and I never got that tiny body back. I’m now 36. I am not quite plus sized, but I’m curvy. I watch what I eat, and I go to the gym; I’m a size 8-10, 36DD, long red hair, look closer to 30 than 40. I resent the fact that media tells us we’re old and fat and unattractive if we’re not 22 and weigh 100 pounds. I have an MBA and a great job. I’m smart and funny and attractive in spite of being older than 22 and over 100 pounds. I think the lady in the ad is beautiful…and she looks like a REAL woman. Like most of the REAL women in the world. Men who only want the anorexic/bulemic/emaciated chicks are dooming themselves to never have the privilege of being with a REAL woman. Beauty is the whole package. Back in the day, I met plenty of men who were pleasing to look at but had nothing to say. I was bored out of my skull after 5 minutes. Kudos to the the BEAUTIFUL, CURVY lady in the commercial.
I am a plus size and I have been most of my life. I am currently in a gym losing weight but it is a struggle. I cannot stand the image that these networks portray. My daughters are both very thin girls and I make sure they know that beauty is not just on the outside. Heavy people are just that people. WE ARE NOT disgusting, dirty, ignorant, people. We are doctors, lawyer, teachers, mothers and so on. We deserve to have beautiful things as well as the same things a thin person deserves. I cannot believe the racism against “fat”people, I know many heavy people that are more beautiful then thin. Screw the media, scrw the networks and screw the people who make heavy people feel like crap!
Fat people are not a race. Is is discrimination against fat people.
I commend you on your efforts to lose weight and get in shape. Not because it’s what society dictates but because you’ll be a healthier and to most a more attractive person. If you were overweight because you did not have the ability to lose weight then I would understand. But, most people actually have the choice but make excuses and blame everyone else. Take charge of your life and own up to it. If you’re happy being big then be big, but don’t get mad when the majority of people prefer thin.
THIS IS SO STUPID!!!!HAVE THE HIRER UPS SEEN MTV,BET,AND THE CMT??? THEY SURE ARENT AFRAID TO POST THOSE SKINNY LITTLE SHOW IT ALL GIRLS ARE THEY???
PLUS SIZE WOMEN CAN BE JUST AS SEXY,PRETTY,ATTRACTIVE,AND DESIRABLE AS THE OTHER,AND THANKS TO STORES LIKE LANE BRYANT WE NOW CAN DRESS SEXY AND ATTRACTIVE AS WELL,I SAY ENLARGE THE PICTURE AND PLACE IT ON A PUBLIC BILL BOARD!!!!!!
Do the big letters make you feel smaller?
It’s just as offensive to thinner models,if you think about it. Is the message that the “plus” size is more sensual, and the thinner model is void of sex appeal, therefore “safer” to appear on fox and abc?
I love Lane Bryant. Not only have they boldly gone where no other has with this commercial, but have you see their catalog? In most plus size catalogs they use skinny models to show the the over size 16 clothes I hate this as it doesn’t give you a real idea of what it will look like on a 22. Not Lane!!!They actually use models that fit the sizes they wear! Bravo to Lane bryant
plus sized women give the best head…they are always hungry.
Oh. Look at me, laughing at you. Not because you’re funny but that you can actually type without a brain.
I’m a man and all size women can be sexy with…confidence….sorry got off line…what about those Victoria Secrets runway shows ….oh ya those girls are thin….thin = attractive.
I cannot believe the apathy from some of the authors on this blog! I comprehend the feeling of discrimination against overweight consumers, but perhaps you should do something about it! Personally, I think it is disgusting! My wife is a size 00 to 0 depending on the designer. If I wanted to see a half naked “plus size” (or however you want to justify being overweight), I would have married one.
i don’t understand, did you marry a toothpick or an ironing board???
I have not seen the ad. I have read all the previous comments that people have sent in. I am a plus size and God still loves me as do my friends, and I have a lot of them. They aren’t bothered about my size. I also dress appropiate for my size. Remember folks, “only a dog likes a bone”.
The ad was tasteful and realistic and less revealing than Victoria Secret ads. I live in Florida and people walking down the street reveal more of their bodies than the Lane Bryant ad. I would expect this kind of response from Fox but not from ABC. I was more shocked at Pamela Anderson and Jake on Dancing with the Stars whose dress (and less dress) was more suggestive and provocative than the great Lane Bryant ad. I agree – GO LANE BRYANT!!!!!
God Forbid our children see some cleavage…….as they the networks show countless shows of graphic violence (Fringe, Trauma , Law and Order and etc). I’d much rather my child see a boob than murder on TV.
Are you kidding me? a size 4 skin & bones could be offensive to viewers and they are going to cut someone in a size 16…..aren’t there bigger issues to deal with?
Definitely agree with “lovetobeplus”. I am plus size and find it difficult to purchase clothing that will look good on me…it looks great on a size 8! Many of us really need to see what a garment looks like on someone of like size. I have been buying Lane Bryant for years and most of their models look like size 14/16. The average “plus size” woman is really an 18/20 or larger. Hive us a break and show us fashions that fit!!
All the time we see skinny half naked women all over nearly every station..And now its offensive to women because she was pluss sized..???? ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!! I myself am not a skinny twig and niether are my daughters and we are very proud to have “junk in our trunks” as my daughter says, and we agree with Alison jones men do like women with meat on thier bones… How DARE they..!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s nice that you are unhealthy and that you’re encouraging your daughters to not only be unhealthy as well, but to be proud of being unhealthy. No parent of the year awards headed your way…Try encouraging your daughters to take care of themselves…it makes me so sad to see obese children, they miss out on so much life has to offer…
I LOVE BAKING CAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sooo sick and tired of being discriminated against. It’s the last discrimination that’s accepted. Maybe we should all march in the streets in protest, it seems to work with every other form of discrimination. They have protections in the law for sex, race, religion, disability etc. Nothing for weight. A commercial that really offends me is the one for Burn Fat pills. It shows some overwight people walking, concentrating on their stomaches and the music behind are drums sounding like bum-bum-de-bum-bum. Sounds like an elephant in the circus. It’s just rude. Anyway, the model, Ashley Graham, is beautiful. Kudo’s to Lane Bryant. Let’s get real!
Really? You think that being fat should become a protected right? Are you kidding? Should using heroine become one too? It’s about as healthy as being obese.
Really, if you are calling that model obese, then you are the one that needs to be protected from yourself. That woman is a perfect example of what the normal woman should look like. Not the fake boobs, skeleton creeps of Victoria Secrets. Get a life Really. BONES are NOT sexy.
Really, take your ignorance and join the tea party .. they’re looking for the one brain cell that works on occation (which isn’t now). OMG, discrimination is discrimination regardless of what person or group it’s aimed at and I bet you think that same sex marriages will cause people all over to suddenly want to marry their pet fish …
Actually I support same sex marriages whole heartedly. Because sexual orientation is not a CHOICE, not eating healthy or excercising and being overweight and gross IS a choice. There’s a difference.
I think it’s horrible! With the amount of plus size women that are in this world, can’t the tv networks show REAL women! It’s not like the model is overly obese! I think this conversation should go on a popular News show. Yet The networks, possibly, are nervous about talking about something so controversial. There is nothing risque, or overly sexual about the commercial. Hell, the beautiful woman of Victoria Secret should grow some balls and stand up for their fellow model “friends” I am sorry the world still has to be so judgmental. I thought we were on higher grounds. So disappointing. (btw) ABC/Fox… I would like you to conduct a survey, and see how many people actually CARE about that commercial airing! Seriously, for two very popular networks, BAD call!
Exactly…we need to stop encouraging “plus size” aka unhealthy lifestyles!
So it’s ok to show “Victoria Secrets” ads because those women are skinny?? Doesn’t seem fair to me. There are more of us “plus size women” in the United States.
There has to be something more important out there than this……..
Of course this is just what Lane Bryant wished for,,,,no need to feel
sorry for them or mad at the networks that did them a huge favor.
What a world we live in. I wish people would get as worked up
about our plus size government as they have about this this trivial,
no impact on my life commercial.
i don’t think it’s about her size!!! i’m not saying fox and abc don’t make their mistakes, but i’m with them on this one! it’s not something i’d want my daughter to see regardless of the womens size! sex appeal is not supposed to be the most important thing in our culture. i don’t like the ad and i wouldn’t air it either!!!!
Emilie you are another one of those conservative nuts that are trying to hide in a fantasy world. There is nothing wrong with that commercial. I think you had better go and turn off your TV and then throw it away if you think that commercial is not something you want your daughter to see. There are a lot worse things being shown on TV.
And I guess you’re okay with the sanitary napkin ads that are now showing red color .. and the Look At Jack, He’s One Happy Fellow, Look At His BIG Smile! ads for men … and the ads for the sexiest girls in the world! where the just-barely-legal girls pull up tops, down shorts and kiss other girls. Yup, let’s get our knickers in a twist over a simple bra ad.
I think that is so stupid look at all thoses sknny woman that are on tv comercials with sex underear on ..
For FOX and ABC I do think this is discriminating at the least and I would back Lane Bryant and the Model on going all the way and taking this to the courts. If they desire to stop and add as such then there should be no Victoria Secret adds/ shows at all and most oftodays TV should not be presented at all.
Go for it Lane Bryant put it to the people for a vote.
For a fact there has been more skin showing on the Dancing with the stars shows lately then this commercial ah though the girls in that show are thin also– truly points towards discrimination.
whats wrong with the ad. just more to love.
Thank you Julie….
…Eloquent!
The thing is, she’s “plus-size” in the MODELING/FASHION WORLD ONLY. In reality, a plus-size model can be someone who is a size 6, which is a pretty healthy, slender size to be. No one is saying morbidly obese women deserve to be seen and appreciated the same way healthier sized women are. Just know that just because a model is plus sized does not mean she is fatter or unhealthier than the average woman; she is most likely the closest representation to millions of women around the world.
who wants to see some fat butt stuffed in a thong??? Fat is a sign of unhealthy eating habbits and lifestyle. It very rarly has anyhting to do with “big boned” If you don’t look good in spandex then you ain’t going to look good in a thong
ah yes, another member of the progressive party speaks. what caused the results of your unhealthy thinking life style?
Well I for one completely agree with their decision to ban this ad. As it is an ADVERTISEMENT I don’t feel like our country (any country anywhere really) should be advertising and promoting unhealthy and disgusting lifestyles. I think that our obese population, and yes there are a lot of them as this comment section clearly shows, is a major drain on society and nothing to support or even tolerate. Start taking care of yourselves people and there won’t be a need for fat stores, thereby eliminating fat store ads. Being fat and lazy is not a protected right. Maybe get off your computer and go for a jog? Go to the gym? Eat some fruit and vegetables instead of the garbage that made you 300 pounds to begin with? Just an idea…
the drain on society are the self centered and socially
stunted people like you and your narrow mined self!!!
are’nt you missing your nazi progressives meeting?
LaLaLa your opinion is not worth a penny. That model is not fat by any stretch of the imagination. That is why your daughters might wind up in the hospital for a eating disorder. There is nothing wrong with that model. The only thing wrong or fat here is your head.
And you think that because a person is slender and small that they are healthy. WRONG
LaLaLa .. is that what you chant while sticking your fingers in your ears when someone points out how absolutely stupid you are? My gods, just how lazy is your brain to even think of things like this because it’s obvious you’ve not given those gray cells a workout in a LONG time. Overweight people can lose weight, LaLaLa, but you just can’t fix stupid. I.E., your condition is terminal.
No it’s probably what she chants while running in the park. LOL I can’t help but agree with her. Fat should never be mistaken as beautiful. And no one is saying that stick thin is healthy either. It’s like just because someone doesn’t agree with being overweight they have to have an eating disorder…it IS possible to not be overweight and at the same time NOT have an eating disorder. God you fat people make me laugh.
I would think that a plus sized model wouldn’t be beneficial to their sales. Yes the current pattern in America is to be fat and sloppy. Not that I think that everyone should be stick skinny, there is a middle ground. We shouldn’t except the beauty in all way of thinking, we have a standard and people reach towards it. More power to the ones who attain that standard and less to the inner beauties. Now when one is in their best physical shape(though naturally bigger) that’s a different story. Fat should not be tolerated as beauty under any circumstances.
Thank you! Well said!
self centered and socially
stunted people like you and your narrow mined self should not be tolerated under any circumstances.
!!!
are’nt you also missing your nazi progressives meeting?
And stupid should be less tolerated, Micks; stupid is just so very ugly.
So now just because someone isn’t fat and doesn’t support that kind of unhealthy lifestyle that makes them STUPID?? LOL. Fat is so much uglier than stupid could ever be, and it’s so obvious that you are both.
Fox? For real?! This is so crazy! Has anyone seen the new Reebok commercial with all the butts on it with cheeks hanging out and bouncing???? What about the VS commercials that shows full body??? All this is…a case of prejudice!! The girl is not a size 3 so it cant be shown? This is no different than showing racism towards another race or color! White skin is different than black skin…but we all bleed, love and hurt the same….So now “big” people dont derserve to be treated fair?……There should be more commercials with bigger women on them. How many times do we go buy an article of clothing and all of a sudden we look like the models on the commercial who are advertising them? …I mean really….
I believe we all have the same rights, if Victoria Secret is having fun why Lane Bryant isn’t?…
I thought the ad was classy.
I would rather see a real size woman on TV rather than those stick thin models with Victoria Secret and their silicone breast. We as women have been brain washed to think that we must be a size 6 to be loved and acepted in today’s world. Shame on the folks that banned this ad. Let’s not be judged by a dress size.
You’re right, instead lets be judged by how we value ourselves and how we treat ourselves. Fat women clearly don’t respect themselves or they wouldn’t let themselves become so fat. I’m sick of hearing fat women described as “real women,” personally I’d like to think of a REAL WOMAN as someone who is HEALTHY, who eats right and excercises and isn’t fat. I do know I am in the minority here as being fat and slobby and gross has become our nations norm, and being fat is now the delusional version of what’s “real”. And if you aren’t nasty and obese you’re considered toothpick thin and that you don’t eat. No, we just don’t eat 9,000 calories a day, and neither should you. It’s sick.
I’m sorry but anyone thinking that this AD has anything to do with eating disorders has a reality disorder.
This AD is from a company who’s clientele are large, tall and plus sized women and is tastefully done.
every department store has a men’s big and tall dept. in addition to the plus size and petites in womens.
yet, they never run a national tv add for them.
Heck, even the show, “Grey’s Anatomy” added a full figure plus size character in Dr. Torres. Can you say SIZZLE.
This negative reaction is part of a campaign to make it bad to be large big or plus size.
the white house is even in on this campaign with Mrs. Obama on the comittee against obesity, another joke.
if you ever see her hips they’re bigger than the national debt. she wears clothes that hide them and she’s not to be photo’d below the waist.
i saw her in some race with kids at the white house and they showed those hips…huge!
they want us to think it’s unacceptable not to be skinny.
what we really need to see on tv are more ad’s for viagra, cialis especially when they nationally televise the victoria secrets special every year!
And if they believed The commercial is similar to that of Victoria Secret and the networks stated that it is discriminatory towards plus size models and plus size women in general then who does Victoria Secret discriminate against? flat chested women?
there are beautiful women in all shapes, sizes, tall, short and in between, and it’s nice to know that they can buy clothes that can help them look good and feel sexy too!!!!! and a world of people support them!!!
I see nothing wrong with the comercial. I viewed it and have seen more skin on Bay Watch. Advertisers are what pays network TV bills. If I were a Lane Bryant advertising rep I would just refuse to pay for any time on those networks and move on to other outlets.
1. Discrimination is discrimination. Period.
2. There’s no reason to blow this whole discussion so far off the planet.
I not seen the ad because I don’t care for television. Is it truly too risque for TV? Let’s think: is any material is ‘too risque’ for television?
Stay real, people. Many of these posts are absurd.
How about lets just let all of the gross, obese, UNHEALTHY Americans drag up the cost of healthcare, suck up the welfare and SSI systems since so many of them are “disabled” because they can no longer move right, deplete our food resources and make those around them who choose a different, healthier lifestyle, in a constant state of feeling like vomiting. Oh wait, that’s a pretty accurate description of the good old US of A as it is. Ha. I like the lady who suggested rallying for fat being a protected right. Haha…that is all we need, FAT PEOPLE PARADING DOWN THE STREETS TOGETHER. It would sure be one slow moving, foul smelling parade! Sounds like high quaility entertainment if you ask me. Except most of them probably wouldn’t make it off their couches to go outside and walk anywhere so the parade might be kind of small. Hmm. Oh well.
What is this mentality i’m seeing that only plus size women are “real” women?? People come in all shapes and sizes and measuring someone’s womanhood by her size, is no better than saying only a big unit makes a man a man. Not all skinny people have an eating disorder. The same claim could be made for bigger people. Or should i say “normal people” or “REAL” people. You all disgust me. Image obsessed… If your not happy with your own body don’t rail against others for theirs, get off your ass and do something about it.
Very well said!!!
i think it is pretty bad they will not show the ad.I think lane bryant should sue especially when victoria secert can show those anorexic girls. There is nothing wrong with plus size people. This is life people everyone is different.
I just viewed the ad. How can anyone say that is too racy esp. compared to a Victoria Secret ad. I thought it was very well done. She is a beautiful model with a beautiful body. Shame on the networks!
I can’t believe FOX mainly because they have the audacity to air some explicit things that should have never been aired, however banning an innocent lingerie commercial for what? Because of a bigger girl? Where is the irony in this!!!
Fat is not pretty, the ideal waist to hip ratio is about 7 : 9 . If you fit in this category your body is beautiful (fixed in our male brains with evolution). If your ratio is not this, then you are not the ideal shape. You can get there if you work hard, and then the rewards will be there. If you don’t work at it, no reward. I only see girls complaining, us men know what we want but we chose to not say anything. We know what beautiful is and women know that those models exist and girls like them, and we want them. You know us men want that and you try for your men to not stare to a beautiful woman, if you think that skinny is ugly, don’t pinch you man when he stares at a nice skinny girl. Fat women say those skinny girls arew ugly, fake and unreal right, well they are beautiful, and wanted by men, also it is reality and there is my proof, don’t pinch your man! I want to see independent man’s opinion, without the wife watching what he posts on these comments!
Well the way I look at it . The add finally showed a real woman. All hell my wife is a plus size and I been with her for 28 Years. So for the lady that drinks to much and all the other lady’s that had a problem with that add. GROW UP
Again, here is this “real woman” b.s. REAL women don’t have to be fat! I’m real, I pinch myself and don’t wake up so I don’t think I’m dreaming, and I go to the gym 5 days a week and eat a healthy balanced diet. Real is translation here for lazy…
Personally, I think they made a good choice.. who wants to be watching with their children and have 1/2 to 3/4 naked women prancing around on a commercial or in a TV program..I don’t care how fat or skinny they are…it is disgusting. What has happened to modesty and decency? Oh right. Have to think about the bottom line and all the money they will make by exploiting these females.
for all those who have a problem with weight it’s on us.why do u really care? JUST B/C U HAVE A LIL WEIGHT ON UR BODY DOESN’T MEAN UR GOING TO DIE,HOW MANY EXTRA WIDE CASKET DO YALL’ THINK THEY MAKE? YOU CAN WORK OUT UNTIL YOU CAN’T MOVE NO MORE,AND STILL DIE.PPL NEED TO REALLY WORRY ABOUT THEMSELVES IN THIS DAY.AS LONG AS A WOMAN CARRY HERSELF WITH RESPECT TAKE CARE OF HER LIFE,KEEP IT MOVING.THIS WORLD STICKS ITSELF WITH TONS OF BOTOX,BIGGER LIPS,BIGGER TITS,FAKE HAIR AND THE FAKE TAN, NOSE,EYE’S ECT.SO REALLY THE MODEL NEVER HAD A CHANCE B/C SHE’S A REAL WOMAN.YOU THINK B/C UR SMALLER A MAN IS GOING TO LOVE U MORE,HISTORY SHOW’S UR WRONG.I RATHER WORKOUT A LIL AND BE HEALTHY AND STAY MY SIZE, THEN TO LOOK LIKE A SKINNY ORANGE TIGHT FACE CAN’T FROWN CAT.BOTOX THE NEW CRACK!
Good for the networks for a setting a standard, I’m sick of society trying to brush off overweight people being okay, It not ok to smoke anymore and cigarettes are not displayed in public advertising. Its a health epidemic and even being in company of fat people is bad for your health. They don’t exactly want to exercise. Try going on a bike ride with a fat friend their always looking for a stop to eat. But its o.k. we have plus size models weight is not an issue.
Bravo! Could not have said it better myself! Being overweight is NOT ok and it shouldn’t be encouraged! Our society has some major issues when the majority is obese, real is equated to fat, and health issues like diabetes are on the rise because of it. It needs to STOP! Unhealthy is not beautiful.
The people over at ABC are a bunch of hypocrites and those people over at FOX Hole news don’t really have anything to say unless its negative about the president. As Jay Leno pointed out. The commericals that ABC show throught out the day and durning prime time are far more racier and sexy that the Lane Bryant commerical. I saw part of the Lane Bryant commerical and lady looked good to me. Women are supposed shapes and be shapely. Shame on you ABC!
Honestly history backs the plus sized woman the whole thin thing came into it’s primme during the VICTORIAN era when women did atrocious things to there bodies to fit a mold, ancient statues often depict women who are not sticks , japanese culture even embraces the idea of a woman with a “paunch” to be the height of sensualness my personal feeling is if in bed my wife was poking me with a “fashionable” figure I would do all the cooking and I was raised on a farm if you don’t do soul draining hard work you become sexily curvy in no time at all but as she is fully aware of the dangers of todays skinny fascination
You’re getting there. The word you want is “prejudiced”. Good thing your job is writing.
i am also a plus size. it’s ok to walk around looking like you havent eaten in years but if you’re plus size, you’re disgusting? c’mon
Wow..i wonder how old most of you on here are because you guys sound like immature little kids. this is world is full of idiots and i’m tired of crap like this. there is nothing wrong with this commercial at all and for all of you who think so. why don’t you make a commercial and let even everyone judge how you look. i can tell you know there is a good chance that a lot of people will find you to be unattractive. i prefer not to see people in their underwear regardless of their size but it isn’t right for plus size women to be treated any different then this tooth pick women in victorias secret and other commercials. why can’t people just leave their opinions without being ignorant?
I have read the story, not seen the commercial and have read all the comments. I only have one comment- why do men feel like they have to have a 12 year old size woman? Kelly Rippa is a prime example-the woman has no figure, flat chested, no hips and she looks like a 12 year old!! Why would any man want to cuddle up to that unless they have a “Serious Sexual Problem”? Full figure women have so much more to offer!!
To the gentleman who said plus sized women give the best head….they are always hungry. Isn’t it special that men can put a woman’s weight down and all the time they are only thinking with their penis…they know no other intelligent form of logic. I think it’s about 200 years past time that a plus size model represent the product she is wearing. By the way, she is a size 16!, not a 34…do the penis’ still get it..probably not. I have struggled with my weight all my life. I think the ad was done in good taste, just like the smaller sizes and I think America should grow up and live in the real world…are the majority of the women and men a 0 to 2 size? No, but the heavier women are working on it, which is more than I can say for the men of our world! Grow up people!
I agree that this is ridiculous! How is a plus size model being prejudiced? Are the other ‘normal’ commercials being prejudiced towards small, petite women and models?
I am an avid Lane Bryant shopper and it really is upsetting that the networks considers a Plus Size model to be offensive. If you want to march in protest we can as long as we have on our Bras and Panties we are dressed enough to go outside in public.
I love how some people on here think that just because a woman is full-figured, she’s automatically unhealthy. So juvenile.
Since when did FOX get moral? I see nothing wrong with the add. in fact I think big women are more attractive than skinney, under weight women. Just because they are a plus size does not mean they are fat. They can be big without being fat. I love Amazon types. There are more of them than there are skinney, under weight types. This is what reality really is in the real world. Not some networks idea of reality but the real world.
Guaranteed, Victoria Secret ads make me sick ! Way too revealing for public tv & viewing by children. This is exactly why many of us do not buy at Victoria Secret. Now, I have to thank both VS and LB for taking the mystery out of unmentionables.
I definitely feel the Victoria Secret ads are way too suggestive and sickening. Please leave these to the privacy of our own homes. TV CHANNELS -PLEASE BAN VICTORIA SECRET, THEN IT WILL BE EQUIVALENT. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID STATIONS FOR PICKING ON LANE BRYANT ONLY. USE YOUR BRAINS, … NOT YOUR PANTS FOR THINKING !!!
I am employed by a Lane Bryant in Texas. We were very disappointed by the networks refusing to air our commercial. What makes our commercial any different than the VS commercials? This world is made up of every shape and size and certainly does not mean that we think any less of ourselves because we aren’t a size 2 or 4 or 6 etc…….We are beautiful women, inside and out!!!! The model chosen for this ad, is a very beautiful and sexy woman with confidence to portray herself!!!! The beauty found within that confidence is exceptional! I am PROUD to be a Lane Bryant customer and employee!!!!!
You know something..I am a fat chick, and all the people who say ” No fat chicks” or ” we shouldn’t aplaud plus sized women because it is sending a negative health message” can kiss my big fat ass. You can say what you want, but you are all haters, no better than racists and homophobes, and it is time people told you to off. It is rediculous that there should be this double standard. If Victoria’s Secret can show skinny chicks on tv wearing next to nothing, then there is no reason why Lane Bryant can’t show plus sized chicks in bras and panties. Both companies pay Fox money to have their ads shown, and both fat and skinny watch the commercials and buy the underwear. This double standard is bullshit and more people who believe this kind of double standard is bullshit need to speak up instead of just accepting that the predujuice against plus sized women is ” just the way things are”.
Newsflash lady…the color of our skin and our sexual orientation are NOT CHOICES…the way we live our lives in terms of what we eat and how much we move ARE choices. So really it is nothing close to be racist or homophobic when someone doesn’t approve of an unhealthy lifestyle. Get off your couch and go for a run. Oh wait you probably can’t run…
I think the whole world is coming down on any one plus size and it’s a shame. IF ANY ONE WANTS TO FEEL SEXY LET THEM BE, it dosn’t affect me. I think no matter what your personal preferences are it shouldn’t affect others. The whole world is changing and they say change is a good thing. So are you going to hate your mother because she gained weight. Thanks
Enjoy life and let others enjoy theirs…
