Two coyotes attacked and killed a young Canadian singer walking in a Canadian national park Tuesday. The rising star on the folk scene, died Wednesday from her injuries, Canadian media reported.
Mitchell Taylor, songwriter and actor, originally from Toronto, was on tour in the Maritimes, where she was given a dozen concerts to promote her first album, For Your Consideration. The young woman was walking alone on Tuesday afternoon in the Breton Highlands National Park in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, when the pack of cayotes attacked her.
Park rangers found Walkers, 19, after hearing her cries and managed to shoot one of the animals.
Losing much blood from her multiple wounds, Mitchell Taylor was admitted to hospital in Cheticamp, before being transported by helicopter to Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax, where she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday around 3:30 in the morning.
Coyote attacks against humans are rare. This is the first known case of a human being killed by coyotes since the presence of these animals was discovered in the province in the ’70s, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Nova Scotia.
The Skyline Trail, the busiest park will remain closed until the pack of coyotes are found and shot, according to Radio-Canada.
