Team Canada Announced For 2010 Winter Olympics

The 2010 Canadian Olympic hockey team was announced on Wednesday by former Canadian hockey star, Steve Yzerman. The Canadian hockey team looks well prepared for this year’s Winter Olympics as they boast 23 of the world’s premiere hockey players.

The Canadian team is led by forwards and NHL stars Sidney Crosby, Mike Richards, and Joe Thornton. Captain Scott Niedermayer and alternate captain Chris Pronger lead the Canadian’s defense while Marti Brodeur, and Marc Andre-Fleury will see the most time in the goal.

Yzerman clearly had some difficult decisions to make as Canadian NHL stars Jordan Staal, Martin St. Louis, and Vincent Lecavalier were omitted from the final roster. While those players were surely finalists, Yzerman and team Canada made their final roster decisions largely on three factors; player versatility, each player’s familiarity with one another, and a gut feeling.

With such a loaded, balanced and talented roster and considering the Olympics are based in Vancouver; team Canada is widely considered a favorite to win the gold medal. Canada should get strong competition from the USA, Russia, and the Czech Republic, who all will have a star studded roster.

  3. theo says:

Eric Staal ???? he played his way off the team in my opinon, B Morrow ????, C Perry ???? instead of Steve Stamkos , Marty St Louis . I hope for the best but this team is slow

  4. ben says:

  5. Lisa says:

Ok fair enough line up… but not one player from the Edmonton Oilers … that is a disapointment

  6. Wayne says:

you guys have no idea what you’re talking about, Morrow is on the team for the 4th line, aka CHECKING line, in other words to add grit and toughness. Why the heck would you replace him with St. Louis. You guys just care about having “exciting” players rather than players who are bested suited for the teams needs. I think the team is overall well balanced. Theo by far is the most confused individual in this thread. Stamkos over Perry? Are you kidding me?

  7. burkes says:

Try and pick this team yourself, not easy by any means. So many great Canadians to choose from, I say best of luck!!! These guys will be great!

  8. Brad says:

Good team but Perry shouldn’t be there, instead Lecavalier or Stamkos. Go Canada!
