Bad news for HTC Dream owners on the Rogers Wireless network: a memo was sent out to employees recently to halt all activations, upgrades, and sales of the Dream due to a GPS software issue that hinders 911 calls. The black and white and color versions has been removed immediately from the company’s sale system.
No subsidies will be paid for activations or upgrades, according to Sales Central. All SKUs from the HTC Dream have also been removed from Sales Central and Vision21 point of sale systems, Rogers’ official website, and telesales.
An unofficial statement from the company states that the HTC Dream is the only device affected and that the protection of their customers is Rogers’ top priority. Customers were notified immediately as soon as Rogers was made aware of the situation.
Anyone who owns this product is being urged to turn off the GPS satellite tracking on their phones until an Android 1.5 upgrade is released.
