HST Will Cost You Big Bucks

July 1,2010 will bring a new tax to Ontarians. The Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) is set to go into effect that day. This tax will cost the people, on average, an extra $225 a year in utilities alone. New home buyers will suffer with additional taxes on services, such as home inspection fees and moving fees.

The HST tax, imposed by the provincial government, will be in addition to the already standard sales tax. Citizens can be prepared to pay a minimum of 13% sales tax on all their purchases.

Canadians fear that this new tax will slow home sales and retail sales even further as the cost of everyday living will so greatly increase. While the Department of Finance suspects that the raise in energy costs will only be minimal, citizens realize that this is never the true case.

Different groups throughout the province have come up with ways the government can help offset the costs of the new tax and stabilize the economy. Reductions in the taxes placed against selling a home or the cost of energy are a few of the suggestions. T date, the government has not responded to these requests and Ontarians are left wondering how they will pay the extra money each month come this July.

At a time when people are continually cutting back this new tax seems excessive on many levels. Ontarians will need to be even more careful with their energy usage and spending habits to compensate for this additional cost of living increase.

This clown (Dalnut McGimpy)has burned us more than any other polietician in the history of this country. I am so angry with the clowns (and you all know who you are)that voted for this loser. Smarten up and get rid of him.

  2. Cynical Sam says:

And where are the Cons on this? Why is Harpo giving Ontario billions to implement this? No new taxes indeed!

  3. Alain P. says:

Kick this bunch of rotten liberals out of office. I can’t wait for the next election. Geezzzz!!!!

  4. Scott M says:

Hey guys, stop blaming the false left or right, if you voted coservative or liberal this is your fault. Vote against these two, vote green, or vote a lesser party, show them you won’t play their game, because theyre both to blame, 2 sides of the same coin. its to keep people arguing over whos right or wrong, as oppossed to getting real changes implemented, if your still arguing libs or cons, you need to re-evaluate your position. what do you want the puppet on the left, or right?

How will voting Green alleviate taxes such as this in the future? It would seem they would be all for it. I agree thought that the aminstrean left/right battle is a farce-they are all pals behind closed doors.

Isn’t nice that ordinary Canadian’s can be made to pay more in the midst of an economic slowdown caused mainly by the blowup of a housing derivitives market.

I can’t see how raising the costs for the average consumer will help the economy grow. This will help stagnate housing markets. It will slow down consumerism as well. Families will have to take a harder look at their budgets.

It’s bad enough that the price of natural gas has gone through the roof. When I bought my house some 7 years ago, I had my gas meter removed and went to only electric heat. The gas company (in BC at least) charges about $25 a month rental on the meter, all year round.

New taxes without fiscal responsibility, is insane. There is enough corruption in government that all we need is a few independent audit teams per province. I am sure they’ll find more money than any HST revenue could generate.

The route the government is going could cause Deflation, a word governments don’t like to even talk about. A shrinking of the economy is not what we need now.

We need stimulus, not new ways to tax us into poverty.

Either lead us, or get out of the way.

They’re all the same, in it for their own self interest. The only ones you can hope to trust are those already independently wealthy.

The feds have been pushing Ontario to ‘harmonize’ for years because it will benefit their bottom line while the provincial party that agreed would suffer politically. The fedcons sweetened it by offering Ontario its own money, cash in advance.

The backlash from Ontario voters should send the Ontlibs to the back benches for another 43 year hiatus. Time for the Green & NDP to come up with solid monetary policies, they may never get a better chance of sweeping into power.

  7. STUART says:

We the people are more powerful than the politicians, we may just have to rebel against this HST.

Just like reading a tale of two cities again.

lets not be wimps and do something about it,if it comes into force, everyone should move to Alberta.

Check out the vast number of drones working for big bucks for the Ontario Attorney Gerneral…sickening.

This Governement ships jobs to Japan to build windmills, is building a solar plant at Sarnia, the sunniest spot in the Great Lakes cloud chamber. This government is useing our cheap gas to make electricity, which will make the price of domestic gas rise. This government refuses to consider clean coal or nucear. It has also spawned George Smitherman, the ineffective (ehealth) health Minister, who wanted to cook the sushi. This year they will bring in Bill 191 to stop mineral exploration in Northern Ontario. That one is funded by American lobby groups, Pew Charitable trust and the Hewlett Family. What else do they need to do to prove they kowtow to the environmental lobby groups?

I just noticed this site tonight and living in the U.S. thought it would be interesting to see the difference in the political dialog and issues. Except for the names, it sounds exactly the same. The one thing I find absolutely amazing is the Sales Tax, 13% minimum projected? I pay 7.75% here in Texas. But then again, Canada may be cheaper in other areas of taxation. I guess it’s a small world. Also, the guy in the picture smiling with a thumbs up, I wouldn’t buy a used car from him and I don’t even know him.

That’s an AUSTRALIAN thumb’s up, Dullton is flashing us.

To clarify : this tax is in effect a flat tax ,just exactly what the neocons want to implement for eons. Now in the position to do so. Tax of this sort doesn’t depend on wealth or lack of, it is on consumption . Purchases out side of the country if the goods are keep outside will not be tax subjected. So if you have a cottage in florida you could make big purchases there. The poor willnot have this opportunity.
This is about tax shift , the wealthy pay less and the poor pay more. This favours the supporters of the neo cons,as promised. You must play the tune that the payer wants the piano player to play. This was forseen conclusion.
The bifurcation of society will continue as ordained by McG and Harper.
The rich get richer, the cream rises to the top, divide and conquer( union busting) are to mantras of the New Canada.

Oh the HST is going to be terrible to say the least. Your ONLY way to fight it, is to start cutting your services. This sucks, but if you cut your cable in half, your cell bill etc., and start using less services you can save big.

No one wants to, but it’s the only way to counter the rise in costs and “get them back”. This is a hell spawn made between gov and corps to make their lives better.

I’ve already saved over $500 a year cutting cable, buy only the most basic clothing on sale, and have gone grey and black market for a lot of things like liquor etc.,

Another good way, is to to cut your home budget by the 13% across the board, and it’s not that bad. You funnel that money into a savings account, then when there is enough…take a vacation out of country with an offshore travel agent. Net benefit to Canadian biz and gov, almost ZERO as they don’t get any tax money from you spending it. Minor small profit to credit card as you book it.

I plan on spending the vast majority of my disposable income, off shore and out of the hands of these terrible people. Canada is becoming a prison nation. Free to work and go home, but nothing else.
