Newton Man Wins $1 Million in Maxmillion Lotto
One Newton resident will never have to worry about his mortgage again after winning a $1 million dollar Maxmillion prize in last Friday’s Lotto Max draw. A 36 year old man named, Randy Atwal bought his ‘quick pick’ ticket for the Maxmillion Lotto in downtown Vancouver. He works in town as a Financial Analyst for the government and often carpools with his co-workers.
Atwal says of his carpooling buddies’ reactions to the win in The Surrey Now newspaper, ‘They’re going to tease me for sure…I’ll probably have to buy all the gas now.’ Indicating that he plans on continuing working, despite the win.
The married father of two checked last Friday’s Lotto Max results against his ticket this past Wednesday, having neglected to check the numbers for several days. He says of his reaction to seeing that this ticket matched all 7 numbers of the Lotto Max results, ‘We’re pretty calm about it, just taking it day by day…We don’t have plans (for the winnings) yet, just pay off debt. Nothing spectacular planned.’ Having only learned that he won two days ago, Atwal’s win doesn’t seem to have sunk in yet.
His odds of making such a match on the Maxmillion Lotto are astronomical, about 1 in 28.6 million. This week’s Lotto Max jackpot is still at the max of $50 million, with an additional 29 Maxmillion prizes of $1 million each available for the winning. The lotto jackpot rises each week until it hits the cap of $50 million, any money placed into the pot after that is drawn out for the Maxmillion Lotto offering prizes of $1 million each until the excess cash in the Lotto Max jackpot is paid out.
There were no jackpot winners as of Friday’s, July 30th drawing, however one ticket matched 6 numbers + bonus ball. It is worth over $1.5 million.
