Toronto Mayor Surprises All At Rainbow Flag Raising

Toronto, Canada – Mayor Rob Ford, long criticized for being homophobic due to his indifference towards the annual Gay Pride parade and the Rainbow flag raising event, made his support of equality for all unequivocal by showing up to the event after previously having declined attendance.

The mayor took to the podium to read a statement signed by him in his official capacity as the mayor of Canada’s most populous city which read “Toronto is a society open to everyone, including the lesbian, gay,

bisexual, transsexual, two-spirit and transsexual LGBT community, who are an important part of this city’s diversity.”

The actions of the mayor drew vocal approval of the audience and praises from Kristyn Wong-Tam, a gay member of the city council who said, “Our mayor has shown tremendous leadership today. He’s received a very warm, very loving hero’s reception and certainly we hope to see him at Pride.”
