Victoria Secret’s lawsuit: “Made In Canada”

Lingerie giant Victoria Secret was slapped with a $15 million lawsuit for allegedly selling knockoff designer stockings. Zephyrs, an Italian hosiery manufacturer, filed suit claiming Victoria Secret has used their image and packaging without permission to sell inferior products.

The current stockings sold at Victoria Secret are made in Canada by a new manufacturer. The packaging now carries a “Made in Canada” label to indicate to consumers the product is not Italian in origin.

Zephyrs once manufactured the stockings for Victoria Secret, but ended the business relationship. Victoria Secret turned to a Canadian manufacturer, but did not change the original packaging.

Zephyrs alleges in the lawsuit that Victoria Secret’s actions in the packaging and marketing of their stockings creates a negative image of Zephyrs products in consumers minds and leads to loss of business.

Zephyrs further claims the Canadian manufacturer contacted their offices to obtain their manufacturing specifications and standards.
