Carrie Underwood Wears LED Dress for Grammys 2013 Performance: All the Details!
County singer Carrie Underwood thrilled audiences this past Sunday at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. It wasn’t just her vocal performance that caught people’s attention.
Her dress, designed by the Canadian owned company Theia, is a hybrid gown: part gown and part digital projection screen.
As Underwood performed, the gown would display different designs such as a blue lit skyline at night or a rose pattern.
The Theia line of products was only recently launched in 2009, but Underwood has been a fan of the clothing line and has worn their apparel during multiple appearances including the County Music Awards. O’Neill wasn’t sure that Underwood would actually wear the gown for the Grammys.
It’s not that she didn’t like the gown, but O’Neill said technical difficulties may have made it impractical to wear for the performance. Much to his relief, Underwood took the stage with the digital screen gown and both singer and gown performed flawlessly.
“Anything can go wrong backstage or on the day and Carrie may have not felt comfortable in the dress, and I don’t know if there was a backup dress,” said O’Neill. “You never know until you see the person in your dress that they’re actually wearing it.”
“I think what was amazing was as a performer, she kept the focus of her performance entirely on her and her voice. So you were mesmerized by what was happening, which was happening on her as opposed to something happening of the theatre around her,” he said.
“It was just a magical blend of fashion and art and technology and her voice.”
