The super bowl is less than two weeks away and many people are getting excited. For some people, the most exciting thing about the super bowl is enjoying it with family and friends.

People who are hosting superbowl parties know that the right food is the key to having a fun and successful event.

Some festive food ideas include: chips with spinach or bean dip, baked chocolate brownies and vanilla ice cream.

Other food ideas include, nachos, chili, wings and of course every Super Bowl party staple, pizza.

Of course, it would not be a superbowl party without drinks. Fruity alcoholic beverages and beer are good choices for party drinks.

If there are kids present, limonade or smoothies will be good drinks for them to have.

Groundhog Day: The End of Winter?

Groundhog Day is an American and Canadian tradition that dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries.

It is held every February 2nd and it determines how much longer the winter-like weather will continue. A journal entry dating back to 1841 by a man from Berks County, Pennsylvania was found mentioning Groundhog day.

Supposedly if the groundhog doesnt see his shadow then the winter-like weather will end soon, but if he does then there will be another six weeks of winter.

The next Groundhog Day will be on Thursday February 2, 2012. Will the groundhog signify the end of winter or retreat for a longer nap?

When Is Ground Hog Day 2012?

After a split from fellow actor, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore hit rock bottom on Monday night. The actress was reportedly doing whip-its and suffered from a seizure. The 49 year old Moore, was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Many were shocked over the reported whip-it abuse. Whip-its are considered the drug of choice for teens and is not typically used by adults. In most cases, whip-its involve inhaling large amounts of nitrous oxide.

After receiving medical intervention, Moore checked into a rehab facility for substance abuse. Moore has also decided to drop out of the upcoming movie titled Lovelace.

Her publicist has said that the troubled actress is receiving treatment for exhaustion.

Hershey’s Balls Just Doesn’t Sound Right

Valentin’se Day is just February 14 without chocolate. One of the most popular ways to show your love for that special someone is to give Hershey’s Kisses.

Over 60 million of these milk chocolate confectionaries are manufactured every day. Up close, they look more like foil-wrapped teardrops than kisses. How did they get their name? Culinary historians aren’t entirely sure.

One theory is that the machine that makes Hershey’s Kisses looks like a pair of metal lips. Another is that when the machine deposits dollops of heated chocolate on to the cold metal plate, it makes a kissing sound.

What we do know is that in the early 20th century when Hershey’s Kisses were first manufactured, “kiss” was a generic name for a variety of different candies. Valentine’s Day lovers had their choice among cocoanut kisses, vanilla kisses, molasses kisses and many more.

Kiss was a generic name given to a small, soft piece of candy. These bite-sized candies were also called “drops”, “buttons” and “balls.” These names don’t the same frisson as kiss, so we’re thankful to the unnamed hero or heroine who went with the more romantic designation.

No matter what part of the world you live, there are traditional foods that are said to be good luck when eaten on New Years’ Day. Some cultures say that these foods eaten on the first day of the year bring prosperity and abundance into your house for the entire new year.

New Year Traditions Start With A Good Meal

A stunning fireworks display welcomed in 2012 with Big Ben at the center of the event.

The Big Ben tower was the center of the launch of hundreds of mesmerizing fireworks as Londoners rang in the new year at midnight. As the bell rang twelve, the fireworks were timed to go off with each strike of the bell.

On the River Thames, a display named the London Eye had an Olympic theme. The circle design, coupled with the Olympic colored fireworks display, entertained thousands as rousing London-themed songs were played. This kick-off to the new year is the beginning of the London Olympics excitement.

A year of planning went into this spectacular event, with a crew of 306 working since Boxing Day. Close to 2,000 people were on staff the night of the event to keep things running smoothly. Scotland Yard had 3,000 officers to keep the peace.

New Year’s day is the perfect day to discuss hangover remedies. Many people wake up feeling less than wonderful on the first day of the new year after spending the last day of the previous year drinking too much.

Hangover remedies

1. Drink water, you should preferable begin drinking water before you drink your first alcoholic beverage. You should also continue drinking water during the night and after you stop drinking. After a drink, have a glass of water. Water helps with the dehydrating effects of alcohol.

2. Eat something. The food will absorb some of the alcohol.

3. Drink some Gatorade. Many people swear by Gatorade when they are hungover.

4. Do not drink more alcohol. We have probably all heard of people who say having more liquor will help with hangovers, this is not true. It will only make things worse.
