Google doodles have become an iconic way to celebrate important dates and events in pop culture history, and today’s doodle doesn’t disappoint.
If you’ve Googled anything today, you’ll see that the “L” in the Google logo has been replaced with the Sesame Street character Big Bird, albeit just his bottom half. The telltale yellow feathers and orange striped feet are representing the 40th celebration of the birth of Sesame Street, which started in November of 1969 to help teach inner-city children that learning can be fun, and some of the basic values of being a human being.
November 10th will kick off the official birthday of Sesame Street, which will feature a new opening sequence and a different show format for children. This is indeed a special treat for children of all ages who grew up with Sesame Street in their homes, or for the ones just now learning how spectacular Sesame Street really is.
