In an interview with Opray Winfrey on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, a woman by the name of Charla Nash revealed to the viewers the damage that was done to her face when she was attacked by a Chimpanzee.
The attack occurred in February 2009 when Charla was assisting a neighbor with their 200 pound Chimpanzee. The Chimpanzee attacked Charla and ripped off the majority of her face.
Charla lost her nose an eyelid, lips and both hands during the attack. Due to an infection, doctors had to remove Charla’s eyes.
Currently Charla is still living in a hospital, when she moves around, she wears a veil over her face so that she does not scare people. She feels better about doing so she stated in her interview with Ms. Winfrey. Charla also stated that she doesn’t like to touch her face due to the fact that she truly doesn’t want to feel the extent of her injuries.
Charla’s family has filed claims against the state of Connecticut as well as the owner of the chimpanzee that attacked Charla.
The chimp named Travis that attacked Charla was shot and killed by police during the incident.

Many people go through extraordinary catastrophies and we need to learn to love one’s insides as much as the outsides. I applaud you so others can see your courage.
You are needed on this earth and can be a positive lesson to others.
Thank you and each day can only get brighter.

Was it really necessary?
looking at the video and how the face of charla nash (the 55 year old girl who got her face ripped-off by a chimpanzee) was really gruesome and one may think that Oprah may gone a little bit too far for the interview.
The person was already under in veil, wouldn’t it be better if she stays in that way? rather than getting it unveiled for Public Watching.
I don’t feel bad. People should not treat animals like trophies and should learn to be able to distinguish between wild and tamable creatures. Not every living thing on this planet has the ability to act in a manner such as our own and that does not exclude our closest relatives. Even though it wasn’t her pet, she still made the choice to visit her friend and interact with the chimp.
