7.4 million Americans tuned in on Wednesday to watch Oprah Winfrey interview Charla Nash, the woman tragically attacked by her friend’s pet chimpanzee.
Since there, people from around the world have seen the incredible courage and strength of the 55-year-old woman.
Here are just a few of the comments we have posted by our visitors:
Sarah - wow an amazing lady. to be hurt so much and have so much taken away but still be happy and open and okay about the whole situation is incredible. she cares about her daughters prom and wants the best for her, she is an amazing woman and a great mother. best wishes
Stephane - This just brought me to tears. Regardless, this woman did NOT deserve this and it could have happened to any of us !! We ONCE wanted a chimp as a pet…No Longer!! The State/Government/Whomever needs to step in and STOP such animals as being domestic pets, no matter who it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just look at her now..compared to her pictures before, I feel so sorry for her and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do for her at no amount of money !!
Cythia - I feel so sad for this woman and I hope that with time her treatment impoves. Why do people want to have wild animals in their homes? It is just like owning a tiger or lion. They are meant to be in their habitat, not in our homes.
People will never learn and I hope that the woman who owned the chimp, feels sorrow for what has happened.
This poor woman, Mrs. Nash, now has lost her vision.
It is one thing to have your nose and jaw removed, but at least to have vision left is something we al should have. No, now she is faced to live out the rest of her life this way and it is not fare.
I hope that she finds peace.
It is terible if people begin to make fun of her face.
Those who laugh, should have their faces ripped off, just the same, and even worse.
Steph - Charla, The fact that after this tragic accident one of the first things that comes to your mind is your daughter’s prom and not anger toward your friend is an inspiration and an example of how strong and brave and beautiful you are inside and out. Your daughter is just as much an inspiration as you are to be able to look past what was done to you by a careless act and be there for you. Blessed be to you and your family.
Ver - Wow, I imagined it bad, but not this bad. I will never understand why things like this have to happen in a world created by God.
Ignorant, I know, just being honest.
Dawn - wow…what an inspiration. i cannot believe what this woman has been through. my heart and prayers go out to that family. how are people able to be so inhumane to place some of these comments. its just horrible. i do blame the owner of the chimp and think there should be charges of some sort but my heart goes out to her as well at the same time, i’m sure it’s not what she ever expected and i couldn’t imagine living with what was done to a friend if that were my animal.
Paige - What an amazing woman. So sweet, brave and courageous. Words cannot express how moved I am by her strength of spirit through all this.
I only pray that she is able to receive the hands and face transplant that she desires.

I think it’s horrible that people have the gaul to say some of the things they do. Despite what this woman may look like, she faced the world, and she deserves some respect for that. I agree with people when they say someone should step in and make sure these beautiful, but dangerous creatures should be kept in the wild where they belong. They were never made to be domesticated and brought into our homes. Look at this animal. Lived, slept, ate, and played, did EVERYTHING w/ this person and her friend, and w/out a moments notice, it attacked and could have KILLED this innocent woman. My heart goes out to Charla and her family as well as her friend. She may be responsible, but we shouldnt look at her in blame either. Noone is to blame. If it were up to me, people would stop being so damn irrational and not have wild animals as pets. The thing about it is, I don’t blame the pet owner, but an animal of this size and magnitude, if it was acting strangely, in a way she had never seen before, she should have called a trainer or someone who deals with animals of this size, instead of calling her best friend, and maybe this could’ve been prevented. If it was going to attack someone, maybe they could have prevented the damage. I feel sorry for the animals that end up either i bad homes or dying because of ignorant people. Whether these animals are around people 24/7 for 10 years, their wild animal insticts can come back at any moment if they feel threatened and they could hurt someone. When will the world grow up? Everyone wants wild animals, but you dont see my going out trying to buy and raise a spider monkey as my child. You need family? Go get a husband or wife. Adopt a CHILD, not an animal. Do something good for our society and stop removing animals from their natural habitat. That means you too Hollywood!
that’s right, katie.
this is beyond horrific and tragic and i can’t even describe the pain that i feel for this poor woman
me and my daughter just heard your story,it is so sad this happens to animals that r 2 be wild not house pets and its always someone else that gets there life torn apart and not the people whom r doing this to these WILD animals!!!Our prays r with u and your family…….god bless and keep being strong!!!!
god intended animals to be a pleasure not ur house pet!!!
unfortunately there r stupid people ALL over the world that think they can tame the beast! U CANT!!! EVER!!!
im sooo sry to hear any of these stories, government needs to monitor these things better instead of the crap they do!!
I just happened to watch this show and was horrified. The woman who owned the chimp, has she helped in any way to help this woman finacially. I would think that she would feel pretty guilty about this whole thing
Lord love her and protect Charla Nash! And let the rest of us who protest the our animals, be they dogs, cats, snakes or chimps, are gentle, good, well-trained and harmless take note. ANY animal is always a risk. No one should own any large animal with any degree of power. If you must own a small dog or cat (the only appropriate domesticated pets), make sure it is well-trained and treated as a pet, i.e. stays off the furniture and has an appropriate environment, as well as medical care, for it’s animal needs. It is NOT one of the family. Additionally, at the FIRST indication of danger – put it down. Don’t talk to us about the animal rights or Karma, you made a karmic debt when you assumed the risk of taking an animal into human society…. remember what happened to this trio, the owner, the chimp and the good Samaritan now destined to live the rest of her life blind, in pain and in debt.
Charla Nash was and still is a beautiful woman! We are thankful that she is alive and has very high spirits. Charla has been through a lot and to be so positive is a wonderful thing. She has a gorgeous daughter in which she is very proud of. God Bless you, Charla, you are absolutely beautiful inside and out!!!
Im sorry for this woman, however the government has NO RIGHT to make it illegal to own any pet. Its the personal decision of each person to own whatever pet the want. If government steps in, it is a loss of liberty for all.
omg that’s very sad but she’s still gonna have a good personality and a very nice person that i see and the last thing i have to say is don’t listen to what people say…. about you because your still beautiful…!!!
