Charla Nash, the woman who was severely mauled on February 16,2009, by a friend’s pet chimpanzee, appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show. The chimpanzee weighed 200 pounds when it brutally attacked Nash, and left her face completely destroyed.
Nash appeared on the talk show wearing a black veil. After talking with Oprah for a bit, Oprah asked if she would be willing to remove the veil. Nash had no objections and stated she was much stronger now and did not care what people saw. When she removed the veil, Oprah explained to her that her face would be all over the media.
Nash’s face is extremely disfigured. She lost both of her hands, her eyelids, nose, lips and the bony structure of her middle face. Nash says she is not in any pain, and does not remember the attack at all. Her family has filed a lawsuit against the owner of the chimp for 50 million dollars, and the state of Connecticut for 150 million dollars.
Nash, who just turned 56, is still recovering at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. She is hoping to become a candidate for a face and hand transplant.

she is the bravest woman in the world right now!!! she had every right to have given up on happiness, or at the very least be bitter as hell. but no, she WILLINGLY showed her face on television after that brutal attack, and admitted that she didn’t care what people saw and thought anymore! she is the greatest role model in my opinion. even after the attack, she’s still beautiful to me.

Wow! I admire Charla Nash; I do feel it was wrong for Oprah to ask the lady while on t.v., if she would remove her veil. I simply think it was wrong to put this lady on the spot like that.
Can Charla see at all? I didn’t watch Oprah, but just read what was on the internet. I pray she and her family get EVERY penny she is requesting and that her friend that owned the ape, is put in prison for not being able to control that ape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow…

This woman is courageous. however I think with all the plastic surgeon’s we have in America, she should be looking half way normal. AND NO ONE should own a wild animal. THEY ARE WILD. And I love animals. My prayers are with Charla and her daughter. God Bless.
The woman that owned that chimp should be put to death as far as Im concerned. She has no business owning an animal like that.
ok chimps are good animals. but not as pets they are meant to be in zoos or the wild. put them in research facilities where they belong. not as pets where they could go crazy in any minute. and yes i agree oprah shouldn’t ask to see her face. let her do it on her own. bad choice oprah. and she is very brave. god bless you.

What the hell was that woman Sandra doing owning a chimpanzee in the first place?! The woman Charla said on Oprah that she has no time for anger, but what else does she has time for? If it was me, I would be very very angry! Charla also mentioned on Oprah that she was always afraid of the chimp, even though she’s known it for 10 years, she was always afraid of it. She should have never went to try to get the ape. Why didn’t Sandra call animal control to go after the chimp in the first place? If it was me, I would prefer death than a life like that.

Ok, the other woman owned the animal. First mistake. But then to ask Charla to come over and help her with it and then to have it cornered when Charla got out of her car was reckless, negligent, stupid, criminal. The list goes on but my outrage prevents me from getting it all on paper at this moment. Second mistake and third mistake. It was a deliberate attempt to corner the beast and what resulted should have been expected by the owner of the chimp, especially since it had shown aggression before. She should be charged with attempted homocide, animal cruelty – we’re animals too and a whole list of other things. The woman is the lowest and vilest of filth. Charla is courageous. If you’d bother reading about Charla’s decision to reveal herself, you’d know that Oprah didn’t ask her – spur of the moment – to remove her veil. Charla CAME ON THE SHOW TO REVEAL HERSELF. She had decided to do so on her own time. She had decided NOT to entertain the tabloids that had approached her. That’s WHY she was on Oprah. Oprah went a step further to assure she was ready to do so and got Charla’s okay in case she changed her mind. CHEERS TO OPRAH. She is a very sensitive woman. Which is probably why Charla chose Oprah’s show to reveal herself. Please read and educate yourselves before you light the torches, people. Goodness….
