Mexican Drug Lord Joaquin “Chapo” Guzman Loera, one of the biggest suppliers of cocaine to the U.S. is the newest Mexican billionaires was added to Forbes’ list of most powerful people.
This year 54 year-old Guzman made it onto Forbes’ newly-released annual list of most powerful people
Forbes editors said this is the first time the magazine has developed a list of powerful men and women that is not based strictly on wealth.
While Guzman’s exact whereabouts are unknown — though Interpol, America’s DEA and Mexican anti-narco units are all on the case — his fortune ballooned this past year in tandem with Mexico’s now notorious drug warfare crisis.
A $5 million bounty is on Guzman’s head.
US President Barack Obama is at the top of the list, Slim is in sixth place and Guzman is No. 41, ahead of Venezuela President Hugo Chavez, who is No. 67.

I will never read Forbes again! This is discusting!
What a dysfunctional country we live in when we glorify drug lords!
Tal,
Judging by your spelling acumen, I’m assuming you’ve never read Forbes anyway. I don’t think they’re too worried about losing your readership.
I wonder; where is the infamous Kennedy Monarchy on this list? They were one of the biggest traffickers of Alcohol in the days of Prohibition whereas liquor, wine and even beer was considered an illegal substance as-is marijuana and cocaine are today. Ironically the U.S now receives its largest amount of revenues from the taxation on Alcohol products these days. How long before they realize that the mass will self medicate before seeking an FDA debilitating product aimed at creating residuals vs. curing the root cause underlying issue. “Anti” illegal drug campaigns fund numerous employment factors from judges, lawyers, corrections, treatment facilities, rehabilitation programs, etc. as not opposed to the other government marriage with Pharmaceutical Companies whom fight for a long-term treatment and prioritizes foremost impotence and Male Pattern Baldness instead of AIDS or Cancer, go figure. I guess there really is no money in a cure. See the truth…wake-up America!
Is this level we as a nation have sunk to?? Is how much we’re worth or how well our spelling acumen
or how we speak, more important than our morals ??
this is really sad.
wow he made the list…
So, they’ve put President Obama, and a Drug Lord in the top 5?
Here’s the biggest problem of all- Most of you in here complaining snort coke or have snorted coke in the past and smoke weed. Sweep around your own front door first before throwing stones you druggies!
this is america the home of free interprise. start dirty end clean. USA, USA, USA, shout it proud. you know you love it and even if you don’t you are not moveing to another country so stop complaining and get with it.
Sad, that in this country, it’s more important to stop buying a magazine or supporting anything and anyone who doesn’t share your point of view than to get up off your lazy, judgmental tush and do something to enhance the world. It’s entirely possible to see a drug lord in the same list as our newest US President, considering that the list is of powerful people, not just “milk-fed, politically correct-but-not-TOO-informative information” that is put together solely for the benefit of not offending dweebs to stop mouthing off opinions before they can spell the words they spew, or better – not before they know what they’re talking about. Grow up, folks. If you don’t like the way the world is, change your contribution. Think about it, your verbally flatulent explosions haven’t made anything better so far, have they? And, oh yes, they do stink.
What people dont realize is they probably put him on there so his face and name would be known more around the world. Could be a means of catching him, I would never have known who he was or what he looked like if they hadnt put him on forbes and caused such a stir.
you know your all just mad cause he has a billion dollars and none of us can top or come close to it anyways F$%^ what he does hes rich and powerful even though i dont agree with his carrer move hes gotta be doing bad things extremely well
It is a bit distasteful of Forbes to place a drug lord in their list of “most powerful” people and how they came about their good fortune.
I believe that a separate magazine should list “these” folks since to place them alongside the others deemed “most powerful” by Forbes…..are from LEGIT sources.
But….since so many of these legit companies have CEO’s and other executives who rake in mass amounts from salary and bonuses……(while their company TANKS, receives govt. bailout funds and the shareholders take the biggest hit)….can easily be seen as EQUALLY CORRUPT and theiving…..without any care as to the damage THEY help cause!
CEO = drug lord.
Guess it’s time to legitimaze the whole industry and END drug prohibition since its obvious what hard work and a good education CAN get.
What “message” does THIS article send our youth?
Its just a list of powerful people and who cares anything about it. He made the list because a person who makes a billion dollars must wield some power and that’s the idea of the list. Obama is in 6th and Guzman 41st. So to the reader above they are not in the top 5. But it is an interesting artical in Forbes.
WHAT HAS OUR WORLD COME TO? I THOUGHT YOU PUT EXAMPLARY PEOPLE ON FORBES? A DRUG LORD? WHAT KIND OF POWER IS THAT? CONTROLLING PEOPLE ADN KILLING THEM.. WHAT A SHAME. FORBES I LOST REPECT FOR YOU..
I say we all go visit him and have one hell of a party!
The truth hurts, doesn’t it.
its just a magazine that talks about power!! And plus if he ships half or more to the usa then are gov. dosent want to catch him because they wont get to powder there nose anymore with the good stuff!! lol. But for real all “GOOD things come to an end” so people quit crying about it he wont be around much longer!! lol
If this article angers you, then rise up and lash out at the real source of your anger. Forbes does nothing but report and does not deserve the anger that so many of you have bestoed upon them. If you want someone to be angry with, be angry with the banks and bankers, whom with full knowledge of this person’s activities, continue to launder cash for these and other illegal enterprises. Try to remember not to kill the messenger.
The list is NOT the MOST POPULAR people. Drug dealer can and is very powerful for lives affected and resources demanded. Nothing to be offended about the truth.
Any Canadians on the list?
