According to a recent study conducted at Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, it turns out that male chauvenists were right all along: women really can’t park as well as men.
The study was led by the ambitious female scientist, Dr. Claudia Wolf of the university’s Department of Biopsychology. The department conducts numerous research studies to examine how our physical bodies affect the way that we think and behave.
Wolf set out to examine whether certain prejudices regarding the sexes are rooted in any genetic differences that have a direct influence on our actual neurology. As it turns out, biology plays a huge role when it comes to how we perceive the world, and this has subtle effects on everything that we do in our lives, including something as mundane as parking a car.
The study required male and female volunteers to perform a couple of routine parking exercise, including parallel parking and simple head-on parking. In both cases, women took signifantly more time to park than men, but the extra time did not translate into better actual parking. Instead, the women in the study parked much closer to obstacles and other vehicles than the men. As Dr. Wolf sees it, men don’t have too much to celebrate over regarding the study results:
“It’s just parking,” said Dr. Wolf.
