When Barack Obama was elected president of the United States, countries throughout the world celebrated. Obama’s impact on media and politics has been so explosive and his involvement has attracted more people to politics than ever.
In Germany, the celebration continues. A play has been written about the 2008 election and it’s central characters; Obama, John McCain and Sarah Palin. ‘Hope- the Obama Musical Story’ is a lighter satire of the election with the Obama character serenading his wife and dueting with Hillary Clinton. Thirty actors perform the play and the sountrack even contains snippets of Obama’s speeches during the campaign. The genres include soul, hip hop, rock and pop tunes.
American writer Randall Hitchins penned the play and gathered his motivation from the energy and enthusiasm of voters as Obama was named President. He teamed with choreographer Roberto Emmanuele to get the final effects.
Not everyone can be expected to welcome such a celebration of Barack Obama though. Some critics have accused the play of being a rewritten version of ‘Jesus Christ, Superstar’.
