Sheriff’s deputies in Shoreline, Washington say on Friday, February 5, a 17 year old boy drove his parents’ car through the doors of Shorecrest High school, down the hall before finally smashing into a security office. No one was injured. The incident occurred after school hours. Police have apprehended the driver and taken him to Harborview Medical Center to evaluate his mental condition.
Police at this time say they do not believe the boy was intoxicated but do not know his motive for driving into the school. The boy is a student at Shorecrest High. Police would not reveal any identifying information about the boy except to state that he was from Lake Forest Park.
Two school workers happened to be on the grounds at the time of the crash. They found the car, but the driver had fled, but did not leave school property. Police found the boy 90 minutes later. Charges are pending after the mental evaluation.
Damage costs to the school are estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars. No word on how the boy got the car, if he was a licensed driver and how long he will be grounded.
