golden retriever swallowed a diamond while inside a Rockville, Maryland jewelry store. The owners of the “Robert Bernanrd Jewelers”, George Kaufman and Robert Rosin, often bring Kaufman’s dog, Sollie, to the jewelry shop. Sollie was at the shop during a meeting between Kaufman and a diamond dealer. The dealer brought in a 3-carat diamond worth approximately $20,000. The diamond dropped while the jewelers were inspecting it. To the owner and dealer’s horror, Sollie sniffed at the diamond on the floor and quickly popped it in his mouth and swallowed it. It happened so fast that no one could grab the diamond from the dog before Sollie put it in his mouth.

Robert Rosin spoke to Los Angeles reporters, saying, “You saw Soli go for the diamond – gobbled it up…Tried to pull it out of his mouth, couldn’t get it. Gone.”

The owners of the shop took Sollie to a veterinarian, who advised the pair to allow the dog to pass the diamond the natural way – through his bowel movements. Kaufman and Rosin waited for three long days before the diamond was finally passed during one of Sollie’s walks. The diamond was cleaned off and is in great condition.
