Don’t Make The “F” List At Marshfield Middle School!

In what was suppose to be a motivational move, Principal Schoepke, of Marshfield Middle School in Wisconsin, posted an “F” list outside his office for everyone to see. The principal stated that anyone with a failing grade could not attend the upcoming middle school dance. Students have always been aware of the policy that forbids them from attending special school functions if they have failing grades.

Principal Schoepke defends his move saying that the list motivated several students listed on it to hand in missing work and boost their grades. However, students, teachers and parents are outraged at this blatant violation of privacy. Children of this age have enough trouble dealing with the onset of puberty, peer pressure and school work, outright embarrassment should not be added to the mix.Parents are outraged at the list and believe that embarrassment is not a motivational tool.

School officials are looking into the matter and will decide if Schoepke has violated any current rules or if he has, indeed, broken a privacy issue. At this time the list is still posted outside of his office. Schoepke stated he will continue to stand by this decision to publicly post the grades until he is instructed differently.
