San Juan Regional Medical Center in New Mexico has a new friend. A German Shepard that was injured, showed up at its doors looking for treatment. Workers were surprised how intelligent the lost dog was and as they comforted him, notified local animal control so they could treat the dog.
The dog was treated by the local animal control for a puncture wound. Authorities believe the animal may have been in a fight with another dog. The wounds were consistent with this scenario. Later the owners, while searching for their dog, they contacted animal control to see if he had been picked up. To their surprise and relief the dog was there and recovering. Nobody has reported the name of the dog or the owner.
Medical staff at the hospital remained amazed that an injured dog could find its way across town and to the entrance of the emergency room. While the injury was far from life threatening, staffers felt it was necessary to seek treatment for their new friend. Even though there were plenty of trained medical professionals on staff at the emergency room, the dog still had to go to the regular animal doctor to be treated. Hospitals are for people, not dogs. The German Shepard was unaware of that regulation.
