SPAIN – A 43 year old man has been arrested after having been suspected of robbing at least 10 pharmacies at gunpoint.

The man is suspected of robbing pharmacies at gunpoint of cash and Viagra pills. Viagra is a potent drug that is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Police in Madrid believe that the suspect had been selling the pills on the high priced black market. Viagra is often used as a single recreational drug or combined with other drugs such as Ecstasy to produce ‘Sexstasy’, which is often used in club and rave scenes. The suspect himself does not suffer from erectile dysfunction.

Viagra is produced by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. Viagra is only legally available when prescribed by a doctor.
Sildenafil citrate is the main ingredient in Viagra and is used to treat other health conditions as well including pulmonary arterial hypertension and altitude sickness. The drug was first patented in 1996 and was approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration in 1998. By the year 2001, sales for Viagra topped $1 billion.

Viagra has a recommended dosage maximum of 100mg per day depending on the medical condition that the drug has been prescribed to treat.
