Newlywed Erica Marshall Killed In Freak Horse Accident

Veterinarian Erica Marshall was killed when a horse was spooked while in a hyperbaric chamber. The horse kicked a hole in the wall of the next room which caused a spark from its horseshoe to ignite the oxygen rich air and resulted in a blast killed both horse and Mrs. Marshall. The newlywed Marshall had been in a nearby room keeping watch over the chamber through a monitor when the accident happened.

She worked as a veterinarian at the Kentucky Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center where the noise from the blast could be heard up to 30 miles away.

Normally animals are tranquilized so they do not get spooked and break the machine, but previous times spent in the chamber without being under made Mrs. Marshall feel safe enough with the horse not to.

Kieran Marshall and his wife had only been married since November of 2011.
