Need Sand? In Poland, Its Free

When most of us want to sink our feet in the sand, we head to the nearest beach. However, a small Polish resort town has a new option that will allow the beach to come to you.

The Baltic Sea resort town of Leba is giving away beach sand for free.

The nearby Slowinski Natinal Park contains large and numerous sand dunes that shift with the wind. While the dunes are a natural part of the park, the sand is blowing into the local waterways and is also clogging the beaches.

The drifting sand is clogging the resort’s canal which provides access from the town’s port to the Baltic Sea. The town has been dredging the canal, but the cost has become to expensive.

Anyone can go to the town and carry off as much sand as they like.

The only charge is a small administrative truck fee of $24.
