Man Marries Tree
On Sunday, a Peruvian actor and environmental activist who bears a striking resemblance to actor Johnny Depp named Richard Torres married an Argentinean tree named Aliehuen Nehuen in the capital of Buenos Aries.
The event was part of his campaign to spread awareness about environmental issues in Latin America, reports the Huff Post.
Torres wore a stylish white suit, silver and white tie and blue hat, and carried a flower bouquet. He did not dress up the tree for the ceremony except to hang a tie off of it.
The “green” wedding was not officiated by a priest, but instead by Argentinian artist José María Muscari.
In the ceremony, Torres said vows, put on a ring and dropped offerings before Aliehuen Nehuen. He then hugged, kissed and licked the tree and invited guests and onlookers to say words and perform readings.
This is not Torres’ first marriage to a tree. Aliehuen Nehuen is his second partner. He also married a Peruvian tree in June.
Torres is well-known for stunts designed to draw attention to environmental causes. In 2012, he publicly stripped off his clothing in protest of the removal of trees from a park in his home country.
