Newly Wed Couple Finds Amusement Together in Executing a Thrill Kill
A Pennsylvania couple have brought an insidious meaning the phrase “newlywed game” with their arrest for the brutal murder of 42-year-old Troy LaFerrara. The victim was responding to a Craigslist ad for “companionship” in exchange for money. However, what he did not know is that the woman he was hooking up with, 18-year-old Miranda Barbour and her 22-year-old husband Elyette, were newlyweds who plotted his murder for their own amusement.
The homicidal couple had long wanted to take someone’s life, but their plots never seemed to come together until that fateful day in last month. Miranda Barbour picked up LaFerrara at the mall as per their agreement with her husband waiting in the wings of their SUV for the cue to strangle LaFerrara with a wire. Miranda gave the cue and Troy struck. While LaFerrara fought for his life, Miranda pulled out a knife and stabbed him twenty times.
Police detectives poured through LaFerrara’s phone records and found his contact with Miranda Barbour. During questioning, her story changed with each bit of evidence that police began to bring to her attention. The couple has now been charged for LaFerrara’s death. It doesn’t appear that the adage “the family that plays together stays together” will be true this time around.
