Is Nicolas Cage Really Broke?

If you’re feeling a tad poor because of the economic meltdown, tell yourself that at least you’re not Nicolas Cage. The highest paid actor in Hollywood is broke, according to reports.

Cage, 47, might be one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood but he is currently facing major financial problems, owing $6.3 million in back taxes, after being ripped off millions of dollars by his longtime business manager, Samuel J. Levin.

According to a lawsuit filed on October 16, Levin “lined his [own] pockets with several million dollars in business management fees while sending Cage down a path toward financial ruin.”

Cage says he “relied on Levin to handle his financial affairs to ensure that he and his family would have a financially secure future built on the foundation of the substantial monies Cage earned through years of hard work.”

“He is now forced to sell major assets and investments at a significant loss and is faced with huge tax liabilities because of Levin’s incompetence, misrepresentations and recklessness,” the lawsuit alleges.

This summer, the IRS placed a tax lien of over $6 million on Cage’s New Orleans homes for unpaid income taxes. Very sad, but it’s hard not to look at Cage’s extreme spending and not draw conclusions about his money woes.

Of course, however lavishly Cage spent on himself, he’s also been a very generous guy. The actor gave $1 million to the Red Cross to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina, and $2 million to the human-rights group Amnesty International.

Cage has appeared in over 60 films including Face/Off (1997), Ghost Rider (2007), and National Treasure (2004). Cage has married three times, once to Patricia Arquette, then to Lisa Marie Presley, and most recently to his current wife Alice Kim Cage.

You can do this. I know your not a quitter so “Make It Happen”. Recover all you can from that slim ball manager and move on. I’ll be looking forward to your next hit movie. Love ya man.

  8. Larry Jones says:

A story that repeats itself often. A greedy dishonest Jew in the financial world lies to and deceives others to make himself richer than he already is. Wall Street is full of such scum. And those same scum caused the financial meltdown the world is in today. I hope Nick Cage wins his lawsuit and the Jew responsible loses everything.

  9. agnes says:

  12. gary says:

what about the rest of us average folks, i owe $50,000 in back taxes, i paid in just did not file them. the amount is charges for not filing. i have to pay $787 per month til paid plus the interest still goes on. at the amount cage owes, his interest alone would be great. he should hsvr to sell his multiple homes etc. to pay or make payments on the full full full amount like the average person has to. no deals breaks etc. angry how the sytem works.

  13. jim says:

You deserve better. Admire your work.

  14. terry alvin says:

so that’s why he keeps starring in so many bad movies!! i have no sympathy, because you can survive happily on very little in places like america. he can probably make millions more though i dont think he’s that great. it’s funny, i always think about how much i want just a few million dollars and how much i could do with that, and these idiots waste so much more than that. first thing i wondered is if his wife will leave him.

  15. mia cain says:

The movie business gave you soo much, don”t any of you people do background, and work related checks, There are always crooks, creep hanging around the money maker, from a jews perspective MatchMaker Take time to check your financial picture you were smart to make think like your characters you play, BE SMARTER all over this country a sad financial going poorer story, hope you didn”t find Madoff, that name was a giveaway. He made off with soo much!

  16. terry alvin says:

also i know nothing about nic cage really i’ve just seen his movies. i just read this article and the line ‘his new orleans homes’ is all i needed to hear. so if thats not the only place he lives, which i think he lives other places, he has numerous (probably expensive) houses. sounds very stupid considering he cant even afford it anymore. cant he use banks and reputable companies? i dont know how hard it is to manage lots of money. probably important though if your lifestyle relies on it. and the oldest mistake in the book is trusting people. bernie ‘made off’ with millions from idiots who do.

  17. chad goldman says:

Larry Jones YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!! A lot of people are riped off and not all cons are jews. as a mater of fact I was riped off by a Jones so should I hate you??? you are an Idiot.

  18. Names & Heritage says:

Start looking at names and their heritage. You will find that a mass majority of crooks are Zionists and go unpunished.

  19. judy williams says:

chad goldman.. i agree with you.. larry jones is an idiot.. people are so quick to blame RACE OR RELIGION to be the ills of society.. no no.. it is greed and lust after power..

  20. john mraz says:

Put it under the bed, when you gamble your cash in investments you deserve everything that comes to you…

No sympathy if the economy was good he would be making a killing.

This is just the other side of the coin, I feel better now after wasting my cash on his last film KNOWING ha ha did not see this coming

  21. D. Smith says:

I hope he wins his law suit against his manager. Hard working people don’t deserve to be taken advantage of. Especially when their generous to those less fortunate.

  22. what a joke says:

we make them out to be great people or even role models. they are just the kids for drama class that dont know what to do with money.

  23. Eric says:

Cage has quite a few movies in the pipeline (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000115/). I am sure he will get his normal fee for these movies. Hopefully he finds a competent, trustworthy person to manage his financial affairs for him.

  24. Jr says:

    Hey Nick! Good luck dude.
“Is this movie in 3-D? No but your face is.”

  25. Bob says:

L Jones is not too intelligent to make a comment like that. You and Mel Gibson should get together. People like you should keep your antisemitic and bigoted opinions to yourself!! As for Nicholas Cage, I hope he finds his way out of this.

  26. bob says:

I FEEL FOR THE GUY I DO NOT CARE IF YPU ARE RICH OR NOT HE AT LEAST MADE HIS MONEY HONESTLY ARE SHOULD EXPECT THE SAME FROM OTHER PERSONS IN A PERFECT WORLD BUT SINCE WE ARE NOT HE SHOULDM HANG HIS MANAGER BY HIS NUTS FOR PUTTING HIS FAMILY IN THIS SITUATION NO ONE SHOULD BENEFIT FROM SUCH DISHONESTY. I AM SURE HE WILL BOUNCE BACK GOO0D THINGS HAPPEN TO PEOPLE THAT ARE IN NATURE GOOD.

  27. Hollie says:

wow…not quite sure what to say about this one, i feel bad for him because his family is being screwed over..its one thing to mess with a man alone, but when you are going to where you are hurting his family that is wrong, however, there are so many things he can do to fix his problems, such as selling one of his numerous houses, im sure he will find a way out of this, he just has to get smart and learn how to manage his own finances.

  28. Bill Bosley says:

Good actor, probably a nice guy BUT!! He makes more money for one film than most people make in a lifetime working 40 hours a week for 40-50 yrs!!He will be O.K.
Hope they shoot the SOB who ripped him off but it astounds me that Cage had no clue about what was going on.

  29. Andrew says:

A lot of people out there like to criticize Nicolas Cage because he’s rich & having money problems right now. Why don’t some of you poor jealous trash take a look in the mirror and see your situation if you were trying to support his assets with your pathetic incomes. Sure, Nic’s at a low point right now, but when was the last movie he’s made? That being the case, once he makes a new movie (which I’m sure he’ll have no problem getting), all this controversy will disappear. And by the way, do you really think Nic NEEDS to look for jobs? Quite the opposite, in fact!

  30. lacivita1 says:

I don’t feel bad, he most likley has a car that’s worth more then everything I have.

  31. patrick says:

good guys get screwed by friendsand worst of all if not them then oboma and his pack of thieves. may they get their just rewards now or later.

  32. tch says:

think his uncle will take him in?: coppala, something, and he didn’t use francais name for nothing…..he made it all by himself…..which shelter is he making a movie at? remember, wayne newton went broke…maybe wayne can recommend a shelter in vegas to stay at: like him, he will be ok. us: well we settle for this as news!!! romans settled for the fights at the big C. , this should keep us distracted as the money magicians rip us more.

  33. Jim Maddux says:

He makes 3x+ the 6mil figure on one movie. Nice guy, too bad he was screwed but it’s not the end of the world for him.

  34. Larry Jones says:

Strange how a guy gets so slammed for telling the truth in a post. As far as the financial meltdown and Wall Street. And how I referred to it as causing so many people both rich and poor so much grief, suffering and monetary losses. Do the names Goldman Sachs, Allan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, Robert Rubin mean anything?

  35. mel baez says:

its always the one you trust.

  36. weld387 says:

There are certain things a man should not do. EXAMPLE Let his best friend take care of his wife, TRUST SOMEONE ELSE WITH YOUR MONEY, Trust a lawyer. I like Cage. from his Raising Arizona days to present. Being humbled is a learning experience. To bad about the back taxes. The IRS would put there own grandma in prison.

  37. dave d says:

You forgot Con Air… “Put the bunny down!”

and the Rock…”You want me to put this needle where?”

  38. khpage says:

I have been in the film business for nearly 25 years as an extra, and there is no doubt in my mind that Nicholas Cage worked extremely hard to earn the money that he did. I would suggest to the gentleman that he put his future earnings in a laddered (with respect to risk) series of Vanguard mutual funds, and spend his money with the greatest of care in the future. Just because you can afford to do, or buy, something, doesn’t mean that you have to do it, or buy it.

  39. Jacob F. says:

Larry Jones your point is worthless. There is far more to the financial meltdown then Goldman Sachs and the “Jews”. The ruins of most of the over 100 banks that have collapsed this year have been at the hands of God fearing Christians. Not to mention the government administrations of both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush which allowed regulations to sink to the levels of almost no return neither of which were Jews. Get your facts straight Larry, you’re a bigot. Any chance of you making a point was lost in your anti semitic statement.

  40. ERIKA says:

HE WILL BE OKAY HE WILL BOUNCE BACK HE’S A GREAT ACTOR

  41. mfp428 says:

enjoy the ride for however long it lasts

  42. Diana Schiebel says:

Wow. I feel sad when I hear this. This is a good man, a great performer and obviously a victim of a ruthless financial predator and psychopath. Humbling to realize how easily a mans life’s work and savings can be stripped from him by someone with no morality or conscience in a feduciary position. How very sad for him and his family. I do hope the IRS will go after the right person, the one who got the loot!

  43. Larry Jones says:

I have my facts straight, Jacob. In my business I work in the field of finance and had a front row seat when all of this was developing. The names I mentioned did have the most prominent place in creating and allowing the conditions that led to the financial meltdown happening. Robert Rubin was at Goldman Sachs for many years before becoming Treasury Secretary in the Clinton administration. He also did some shameful things at Citi. Allan Greenspan was Chairman of the FED in both the Clinton and Bush administrations and was the most instrumental of all of them in creating and promoting the various bubbles. Ben Bernanke took his place. For the record and you can research this yourself: many ex “Goldmanites” were, and still are in high places of the government, including the Obama administration. These same people created the financial instruments called Credit Default Obligations, Credit Default Swaps, etc. They packaged and sold this crap to unsuspecting investors both domestic and foreigners. They exported this crap globally in their greed and arrogance to become richer than they already are. They created bubbles then, and are today fighting against any regulations, so they can again create more bubbles in the future.
Are you aware that the derivatives market today is $531 trillion, up from $106 trillion in 2002? This is insane when you think about how it dwarfs the entire world’s GDP and total financial assets combined. Again no regulation because the very scum that created this mess wants no regulation.
I stand by my statements here Jacob, and you or anyone can google these statements as to their accuracy. I am not a bigot. I have only stated the facts.

  44. Amanda says:

This comment is for Terry Alvin. Yes, Cage HAS numerous homes all over the world (including a few in New Orleans). He also has private jets, a collection of 50 cars (I kid you not), two castles (again… kid you NOT)etc. And, it’s just disgusting me to see you ppl sympathize w/ this Cage idiot. He’s just another idiot you blew through his fortune and is pointing the finger @ his former manager to save face. I find it funny how a few wks. ago, I read that a former NBA star blew through his millions and all the hate & backlash he got b/c of it but, yet a Hollywood actor does the EXACT same thing and puts blame on someone else to top it all off but, gets sympathy for it. lol
    Un-friggin’-believable.

  45. jimi genius says:

Who is handling the asset sales?

  46. antijew says:

chad goldman you are clearly a jew and defending a race of people that profit of others. jews control all the major banks in the world, if you dont believe me look at the recent financial crisis. all the banks executives were jewish. just a bunch of selfish immoral people. do some homework before you comment

  47. molder says:

nic will realize the real world is not like the movies he shot anyways i hope he will recover still because he’s good at what he does
