According to reports, Miss England Rachel Christie gave up her crown and opportunity to compete in Miss World competition next month after being arrested for suspicion of assault at a nightclub earlier this week.

Christie, 21,  got into a tussle with Miss Manchester Sara Beverley Jones – in a nightclub earlier this week, According to UK sources.

Christie allegedly punched Jones, in the face several times during the fight over her TV Gladiator boyfriend Tornado [David McIntosh]. It is thought that Miss Jones is an ex-girlfriend of Tornado.

Miss England organizers released a statement over the controversy saying:

“Due to the media attention following the allegations against her, Rachel Christie has now decided to withdraw from the Miss World competition and relinquish her Miss England crown. Rachel will concentrate on clearing her name and focus on training for the 2012 Olympics until this case is resolved.”

Despite losing the crow, Christie was the first black woman to hold the title.

Christie, who is also a heptathlete, has now devoted her time to training for the 2012 Olympics.
