With “only” 19.2 million people watching it was still a disappointing showing for the Dancing With the Stars finale last Tuesday.
Of course, 19 million viewers is nothing to sneeze at. DWTS still remains one of television’s most popular shows, but according to the Nielsen ratings, the numbers have been down all season, an indication that viewers weren’t as attached to Season 9’s contestants as they had in the past.
This week’s finale was the smallest audience for a DWTS finale since the first season, reports The Associated Press.
Donny Osmond, who beat out Mya and Kelly Osbourne, was clearly the fan favourite, but his popularity still wasn’t enough to increase the show’s ratings.

Mya should have won hands down, dwts has become a popularity contest instead of a dancing contest, too bad.
I agree Mya was by far the best dancer of the entire group and it’s a shame that it has become a popularity contest instead of a dancing contest. Dancers should be judged on their dancing ability and not their popularity.

DWTS judges and its fans did pick the winner. Donny proved to be the best when it mattered most. He had it all on the last week. Great job Donny.
The winner should have been Kelly Osbourne. She was the only finalist who had no prior dancing background and grew the most during the show. I do not understand how people with no prior experience are competing with contestants that have been dancing most of their lives.
I agree if they based it just off that. Mya was not the best dancer hands down. Both Joanna and Aaron were good dancers and they were eliminated. Giles Marini was by far the best dancer last season and he did not win either. Donny is a good dancer, took the Judges comments to heart and tried to improve. Mya came off all season that she should win and thought she would win – I think that turned alot of people off. If they just went on the who learned the most and who improved the most – Kelly would have won.
i agree 100% on Kelly! she should of won!!! donny thought he was all that!! he wasn’t kelly improved so much from not being experienced at all!!
All these type of shows are popularity contests. American Idol, So you think you can Dance, any show that have viewers vote on their favorite. Donny wasn’t the best dancer, but he was the best showman!
Each season has at least one dancer that should have stayed longer and one that should have gone home earlier!
DWTS has ALWAYS been a popularity contest…just look at the year Mario Lopez got beat by a football player that I can’t even remember! That’s why it’s called entertainment! Donny Osmond was the best choice as he is a true entertainer!!!
All three were clearly winners. Why not have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place? When the viewers vote, they vote for their favorite, not for dancing ability.
I watched all season hoping for Kelly, Donny and the tall blond guy to get to the top. Those were the 3 with the most character and the most interesting to watch. The others…. boring.
It was so ridiculous, Donny was good and with his Thank you, thank you made me naseous. Hands down Mya was the best dancer. Cut me a break. The show is fixed. I am not watching any more.
The best dancer won DWTS. Donny is very talented and entertaining.It was very enjoyable to see him on the show.
It was also very rewarding to see Kelly Osbourne’s self confidence grow each week. I expect to see great things from her as a result of DWTS.
When Tom say’s vote. He say’s to vote your favorite not the best. Tho! Donny is good. He wasn’t the best. BuT! HE won. Because he was the favorite.
People are forgetting, the show is called Dancing With The “Stars.” it’s not called Dancing With The Best Dancer
I grew up with the Osmonds and respect their efforts but your show turned in to the Donny and Marie show. I was over whelmed this year with the large number if participants. I look forward to your next season but I am glad this season has ended
Look, all three of them are performers. Didn’t Kelly say her dance style was more like the 60′s on the week they drew what era they would adapt the paseo doble for. She is no stranger to performing and dancing as she has been singing with her band in London. JoAnna and Derrick had the future (2000). That was fabulous. JoAnna was probably the last one that was sent home with no real dance experience, except as a child. On the last night, Donny was the best.
Mya should not have been able to dance in an amateur celebrity dance contest since she has had years experience in dance and even danced on broadway.
The show not about who is the best dancer its about who is the least boring and most fun to watch. Mya bored everyone I know that watched anyway. yay! Donny!
Too bad the MORMONs had get involved to insure a win for Donny.
That was not a well thought remark. Mormons might have weighted the vote toward Donny, but what about the other groups? Other ethnicities probably tended to vote for Mya or Michael. Rock enthusiasts for Kelly. Sports nuts for Michael (I’m one of those). Sorry, Donny won for dance ability and entertainment value.
Kelly Osbourne should of won hands down.. Donny Osmond made so many mistakes he was too stiff not enough moving … but the judges said he was terrific!!
just goes to show you . I will not watch anymore dancing with the stars … the only reason donny osmond won was because he has fans thats it!!!! He did not deserve to win..
i would like to see stars that havent been trained in dancing. i was told that mya had a dancing history. of course, so did donny. i watched this season for kellie osbourne. i am 61 and enjoyed her smile and enjoyment. i didnt think i would like her but she was my favorite. also i think people missed julie hough.(derek) sister. very few models have a fan base with the average person
Blah, blah, blah. I’m not Mormon, don’t live in Utah, and my last name isn’t Osmond….but I voted for Donny because voting for him was a vote for the whole family. I’ve been an Osmond fan for over 30 years and proud of it. You were told to vote for your favorite, and Donny made me WANT to watch this show. Normally, I don’t bother. Let’s move on people…it’s a TV show, not a conference for world peace. If I was Mya or Kelly, I’d be embarrassed that my fans were so hateful.

MAYA AND DIMITRI WERE TOP DANCERS MOST THE ENTIRE PROGRAMS, YET DONNY WAS AT THE BOTTOM THREE A LOT, BUT THANKS TO THE JUDGES HE WAS CHOSEN OVER MYA OR KELLY. DONNY HARDLY MOVED UNTIL THE LAST DANCE WHICH THE JUDGES GAVE HIM THE PERFECT SCORE. MAYA HAD WON PERFECT 10′S TWICE. HOPE DONNY FEELS LIKE HE WON.
Who ever said Kelly O. had no dance backround didn’t watch the show. Why would aperson with no dance backround tryout for more than one broadway dance show.If you didn’t like the outcome why didn’ you vote?Someone blamed the judges for the outcome their vote only counts for half the score.
I love DWTS and will continue to watch no matter what. Donny and Kelly you both were wonderful and my favorite did win. Donny is gracious, courteous, talented, handsome and he also gave it 100%. I feel the same about Kelly, just not the handsome part, but the cutest smile.
I would like to see Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Shiri Appleby, Jason Berh, Hilary Duff, Debbie Reynolds, Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Scott Hamilton, Brad Paisley, and Kimberly Williams Paisley as competitors.
The main reason the number of people watching was down was due to the fact there was a professional dancer who was constantly the winner. This is a dance contest for people who have never danced before. Either all professional dancers or all contestants must not have been a dancer before. Get real. I personally felt that Mya would win because she got such great comments from the judges who were obviously going to make sure she won.
