Jack Nicklaus Speaks On Tiger Woods Scandal, Gatorade Drops The Tiger

The fallout of the Tiger Woods scandal has now reached his main sponsors. Yesterday, Gatorade ended their association with the golfer.

“And it’s not over,” predicts marketing professor at the University of Ottawa, Luc Dupont.

According to him, other sponsors of the famous golfer may part ways with him over the next several weeks. He thinks the company include AT&T, whose values and products are strongly associated with family.

In addition to his agreement with AT&T, Tiger Woods is the spokesperson for Nike products, EA Sports, Gillette, Tag Heuer (watches) and Accenture (Business services ).

If the trend continues, Tiger Woods should also see their incomes decline substantially over the next year. Last year, the American golfer earn U.S. $110 million in sponsorships.

In the case of Gatorade, a division of PepsiCo, a contract of U.S. $100 million was signed in 1997 with Woods. The agreement, lasting five years ($20 million / year), involved the marketing of an energy drink named Tiger Focus. This drink was 5% of sales of Gatorade.

Speaking on the Tiger Woods scandal, golf legend Jack Nicklaus said  it’s “none of my business.”

“Our public is pretty forgiving at times,” Nicklaus said Thursday. “Time usually heals all wounds. I think the hardest thing is obviously his family. That’s a private matter for him and his family.”

Nicklaus , who is still regarded by many as the greatest professional golfer of all time, thinks that Woods will eventually figure things out.

“He’s a great athlete,” Nicklaus said. “He’ll figure it out.”
