Actress Jennifer Jones Dead At 90

Jennifer Jones, who had been nominated five times for Oscars and won one in 1943 for her portrayal of Bernadette Soubirous, in “The Song of Bernadette,” died Thursday announced a source close to the actress. She was 90.

Leslie Denk, spokesman for the Norton Simon Museum, told The Associated Press that the American actress died of natural causes at her home in Malibu. Her only son, Robert Walker, was by her side.

Jennifer Jones was once married to actor Robert Walker, whom she divorced. She later married producer David O. Selznick, who died in 1965. In 1973 she was married to art collector Norton Simon, whose museum is named in Pasadena. The latter died in 1993.

Jennifer Jones was one of the biggest stars of Hollywood in the 1940s and 1950s. She has played in films such as “Duel in the Sun” with Gregory Peck, “The Hill’s farewell” and “The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit.”

I loved her in Duel in the Sun w/Gregory Peck and Cary w/Sir Lawrence Olivia, two tragic love stories; both of which I’ve seen many times; she was so talented and beautiful. I am saddened she is gone but will live on through her films.

You’re either very young, or just plain clueless…or both.

Why would someone be idiotic enough to bother commenting “never heard of her”???????????
Why are you reading about her then? Let those who are obviously older than you remember her without your clueless comment. I never heard of half of the nitwit no talents of your generation either. Sorry to be a bitch, but you pissed me off. You could have said nothing and just moved on. Buzz off.

  7. Phyllis Caldwell says:

If you haven’t heard of Jennifer Jones, then you surely aren’t a fan of the Golden Age of Hollywood. She most certainly was a gorgeous beauty and a fine actress. Does anyone remember how fantastic she was in the movie with Cornel Wilde where she plays the evil stepmother who rows out in a boat in the middle of a lake and drowns her stepson? Wow—was she great in that one! And no one who enjoys romantic movies can forget her performance with William Holden in “Love is a Many Splendored Thing.” She will be missed.

    • Pat Flippen says:

I loved Jennifer Jones and many other “Golden Age” stars. However, It was Gene Tierney who played in “Leave Her to Heaven” with Cornel Wilde. Another beautiful and talented actress.

A loyal fan. Although I knew it was coming it is never the less a sad loss. People seldom give credit to in my opinion her greatest and in some ways most difficult part of Hazel in ‘Gone to Earth’(1950). As an American she mastered the dialect perfectly and went on to win over the locals. A wonderful part in a classic portrayal featuring the British countryside and it’s people. It puts the other so called worth a mentions in the shade. Time will tell and give this the credit it deserves. Never to be forgotten, Jennifer.

  9. Sally Griffin says:

I don’t know why all of these testimonials don’t mention Good Morning Miss Dove. It was one of her best and the movie revolved around her part. She aced it. Not for one moment could you imagine her as anyone other than the school teacher she portrayed.

I was blessed by a Grandmother that showed me The Song of Bernadette at a very young age and I’ve seen it easily 25-30 times since! Great story with a beautiful angelic actress. Now she’s hanging out with my Grandmother. :-)

  11. Noele says:

I loved her in “Portrait of Jennie”.
    So beautiful.
