The British Are Coming!
British comedian Ricky Gervais is solidifying his presence in the US one step at a time. The creator of the popular British television show “The Office,” known for his offbeat roles in his “Extras” series, “Night At The Museum” and 2009′s “The Invention of Lying,” has contracted with HBO to deliver a 13-episode animated series aptly called “The Ricky Gervais Show,” which debuts February 19.
The Ricky Gervais Show, voiced by Gervais, along with long time friends and collaborators Stephen Merchant and radio producer Karl Pilkington, is based on the hugely popular podcasts created by the trio for the British newspaper The Guardian’s website. According to The Guinness Book of World records, the podcasts are the most downloaded in world.
The HBO series, like the podcasts, will feature musings on everything from philosophy and population control to round heads, with, perhaps, even a glimpse or two into Pilkington’s own journal.
The Ricky Gervais Show premieres one month after Gervais, 48, hosts the Golden Globe awards on January 17. The Emmy-winning actor and standup comedian also penned the best selling series of children’s books called “Flanimals,” which will soon be on the big screen as a 3-D animated feature film.
