Ke$ha might be able to add another dollar sign to her name after breaking a record for digital sales.
The rapper’s debut single TiK ToK was downloaded 610,000 times last week, making it the highest digital total for a female artist in a week.
The single has also hit number one in New Zealand, the US and even here in Canada.
Meanwhile, her album, executive produced by Dr. Luke, is in the top five among pre-orders on iTunes.
Kesha gained exposure in the mainstream media in early 2009 after appearing on Flo Rida’s number one single, “Right Round” – a song she never made any money from.
According to WENN, she said: “It was an accident I was even on the track. I didn’t make any money off it, that’s why I put the dollar sign in my name as a joke.
“But I was happy singing in bars, wearing clothes I found in garbage and surrounded by people who love me.”
Her debut album, Animal, is set for release on January 5th.
