‘Lost’ Premiere
Throughout American history, Presidential speeches have always bullied prime time T.V. programming by causing delays, if not outright cancellation of some programs. A good example of this occurred not long ago when President Obama bumped the Charlie Brown Christmas Special to discuss his strategy for Afghanistan. However, in the case of the “Lost” season premier the President was not allowed to bump the popular television show for the State of the Union.
What happened was the White House was consistently twittered about bumping the popular show. After having receiving numerous messages about the proposition of moving the episode back to accommodate the speech, it was determined that it would be in the best interests of everyone to have the State of the Union on another night.
What all of this shows, is how Obama is different from past Presidents by being able to accommodate the most popular shows, instead of bumping them to make a speech. This is signaling that the President is not going down the traditional road of his predecessors by forcing prime time television to accommodate him. While no one knows what the future may bring, this could be the early sign that the White House may begin coordinating their speeches so that they do not conflict with the most popular programs.

Is The President's Speech More Important Than The 'Lost' Premiere?
