Dennis Hopper Losing Battle With Prostate Cancer: Reports

According to British newspaper News of the World, the 73-year-old actor Dennis Hopper is now terminally ill.

Hopper, who has been battling prostate cancer since 2002, has seen his hopes dashed after the disease has spread to his bones.

The actor had made public his battle against cancer last October after being admitted to the hospital. He then underwent treatment with a special program at the University of Southern California.

However, physicians have offered no more hope and have warned Hopper that his cancer had become incurable. With probably facing his last days of life, it is unclear whether the actor will cancel all its projects.

Until last year, Dennis Hopper was featured in the series Crash. He also filmed Alpha and Omega with Justin Long and Christina Ricci. This film should be the poster October 10 next.

According to Cancer.org, about 1 man in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. About 1 man in 35 will die of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer accounts for about 10% of cancer-related deaths in men.

Dennis it was great working on the sets with you. It was fun seeing you enjoying yourself, even when you flubbed a line a few times. You always took it in stride. I really enjoyed being your ‘Hand Double’. that was a different experience from the other Background work. Thank you for bringing your act to the screen for all to enjoy. Salente’ my friend..

  2. Jerry says:

I hope that he can beat it. Dennis is the last of the rebel actors out there. The day that he passes will be the end of an era in film.

I feel for Dennis. I, too, had prostate cancer 5 years ago but was lucky enough to have the radical prostectomy and the cancer had not spread when they took it out. It’s just another warning to men to start having their PSA levels checked yearly and do something about it at a younger age, DON’T WAIT UNTIL IT’S TOO LATE !!!

Hang in there,Dennis, your star still shines bright! Who will be brave enough to take on those Lynch movie roles and play the shocking characters so appropriately? Dennis is the only one who really was convincing and made those crazy supporting roles into leads.

I read your comments regarding Dennis Hopper’s devistating news. I was interested in your nation and background. If not too imposing, have you been able to trace your roots all the way? I am of the Cherokee nation and have had difficulty reaching or knowing where my ancesters are. If you have time would appreciate any of your assistance. Thanks.

  15. John West says:

The news is enough to make one cry. And I totally agree with Jerry, that Hopper is one of the last rebel actors. You know, when he cancelled his trip to Australia, I braced for the worst. Something was up, I thought! I mentioned crying because I have the DVD “Easy Rider” which will always be a cinematic experience for me. After all, three greats in one: Hopper, Nicholson, and Fonda. This nobody announces that he too is in the early stages of prostatic cancer. Prostatic checkups beginning at 40 for guys, and for gals, please follow the advice of Theresa Heinz Kerry. God bless you, Dennis!

  16. kmw1206 says:

Dennis, my father had prostate cancer and 6 yrs later, it came back as stage 4 bone cancer. After 6 mos of treatment,(no chemo or radiation) his PSAs are down to .02 which is unheard of. It just proves that there can still be hope and we’re all pulling for you!

  17. Ronald says:

Yes. News of having prostate cancer is devastating. I too had been diagnosed with same, underwent a radical, and that occured in 1998. So far so good.
Dennis, the world loves you, and you will live in our hearts forever.
    Ronald

  18. Inez says:

  19. ana says:

Please make Jesus your Savior and Lord. Hell does exist and God doesn’t want us there. He wants us with Him. May that be your best role, Dennis, to enjoy HIM that created you!

  20. Dr. Cecil Munsey says:

I have enjoyed your work since we were both in the same 1954 class at Helix High School in La Mesa California. “Charlie’s Aunt” was my favorite of your efforts then. The times we went to Tijuana in a small group were great fun – especially when you got up on the tables in the bars and recited Beatnick poetry.

I’m sorry for your current troubles. 17 years ago I too had prostate cancer. Luckily it never got to the bones and I had the prostate removed. Since medicine has improved since them, I am hoping that something can be done that will cure you. Your body of work is not complete and there are many of us who would like to see more of your talented performances in the vault of history.

I’m sorry that you were never able to come to any of the Helix reunions. You were always missed and still have many friends among the former Highlanders.

I hope you kept the eagle feather. It could bring you luck when you need it most.

  21. glo says:

No man holds the stop clock on you life. God is the only one that knows the when, where and how we will past from this life and into the next. As long as you have breath you have HOPE!!!!!

your art is your legend, your inner Dennis is yours.
fight on brother fight on !!!

  23. John Kling says:

Mr. Hopper, I have always considered you a great actor and feel that you deserve better treatment for your acting and directing. I also want you to know that this sickness has touched everyone in my family. I don’t know what your take is on what happens to us at the end of out time here on earth. But that is your own business. But while others seem to be saying good bye, I prefer to incourage you to keep fighting, be the rebel and show this cancer the Dennis we have all come to know and respect. My thoughts are with you.

all men should be taking SAW PALMETTO supplements. NO man should have prostate problems at all.It is cheap and at most all drug stores and health food stores. It is better as a preventitive than an after the fact treatment. Start taking it and you will feel the stuff work. SAW PALMETTO> GET SOME TODAY

  29. pete says:

Dennis Hopper has depth in his acting skills that only a very small group of actors can obtain. From Giant-1957,Sons of Katie Elder,Easy Rider,Blue Velvet,Waterworld,Speed,Hoosiers and the iconic Apocalypse Now. He will truly leave an unfillable void as one who took on roles and, the establishment “his way” We can all learn by his actions of how to follow your own path in life, no matter how rocky the road may seem at times. I wish him all the best. He has so much to offer to all of us.

  30. Ed says:

Don’t repent to God. You had a good life. You used drugs, drank and smoked your way to where you are. Appreciate that you had a good life doing something that was fun and paid you an income that far exceeded the income of anyone with a legitimate job.

    • Lynn says:

Ed, your reply sounds really cold; Dennis has a real job; it is watch you glue your eyes on every day; it’s called a television and acting! Have you ever tried your hand in this cut-throat profession and made it? I think not! Dennis is still very much alive and is still with us. His job is very legitimate and real. Many actors “starve” until their many talents are given recognition. Just give Dennis a break and stop whining because he happens to be an icon his field of work. Kuddos to you Dennis for all the entertainment you have given to your admirers. You ae my inspiration to have my friend have a prostrate exam. May all of our prayers give hope and a miracle to you. No one deserves it more than you. This may be the biggest role God has given you to handle. Just know that we love you and you are in our thoughts and many prayers and if a miracle is meant to be, it will happen. …..Lynn

  34. Gloria Schanz says:

Dennis what ever you do don’t give up.. have you tried herbal medicines? I to have had cancer twice not the same type as you but still it is cancer. I’ve been using different types of herbal products. Right now I’m on something fairly new, you stir it in water. If you want more info email and I can tell you more about it. But it’s not cheap! God bless you.

  35. mark says:

  36. Matthew says:

Ok everybody, knock it off with the mushy God stuff (nothing against the big guy). REMEMBER who you are talking to and about! This is Dennis Hopper for shit sakes. You really think that he is “preparing for the afterlife journey? Hell no! He is going to shake up the norm starting at the pearly gates by chaining himself to them and having a sit-in protest!! Raise your fist and go with fire in your heart my freind, and see you in the next.

  37. B A Gaica says:

Dennis, I wish you recovery if that would be possible, if not, then a tranquil crossing over to another adventure. Get some purple haze and follow the path and forget about this world. Nirvana awaits and your rewards will be waiting for you. I wish you peace and that your family is prepared to let you go so your next life is vibrant and full of light. We shall all miss you, dear friend.

  38. Frankie Harriss (Bland) says:

I was also a Helix High School graduate. I also am the one that tried to encourage you to be at our high school reunions. I’m sure you were too busy with work but we all hoped anyway. We will all remember you and Mr. Schwendiman (drama teacher) and Miss Schutte (teacher who believed in you). We all remember you and pray the good lord will be close beside you along the way.

  39. Janice says:

Sorry to hear Dennis, Keep fighting, my little grandson always reminds me to remember that with God all things are possible. My husband had a prostectomy due to prostate cancer at the age of 44. They found it by what I call our miracle. It has been over 10 years now and I still have him, my dearest friend. We have been married 39 years. May you and your loved ones and friends take courage. God Bless.
