One of the two remaining Golden Girls has suffered a stroke following heart bypass surgery.
Rue McClanahan, 75, underwent the surgery in November and had the stroke January 14th.
McClanahan’s right side and speech were affected by the stroke but after the blood clot was removed from her brain, her recovery is expected to be full. Doctors are positive about her outlook after a two week stay in the intensive care unit and her participation in phyiscal therapy.
McClanahan was scheduled to attend her own tribute at The Castro Theater in November but had to cancel due to the surprise surgery. Fans hope she will be able to reschedule the appearance. Meanwhile, the other Golden Girl Betty White is scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 23rd.
McClanahan and White starred in an Emmy winning television series alongside Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty. The show ended in 1992. Estelle Getty died in 2008 and Bea Arthur in 2009.

She is the orginal cougar, life gives us a bad turn as we age but no matter how much time passes, I can turn on an episode of the Golden Girls and laugh their humor is ageless. Get well soon!

I spent many hours watching the Golden Girls with my dad when he was in a nursing facility. He loved watching them and knew every episode. He has passed, but the memories of his laughter while watching you is priceless.

My prayers, thoughts and much love are with you at this time. You and “the girls” have been such a big part of my life since the inception of The Golden Girls. The memories I have of my youngest daughter, (at the time app. age 8 yrs.) lying on our couch each and every Sat. night watching your show are with me every day and particularly when watching your reruns as I regularly do. I was a single mom of three and refused every date on this night because of you girls. I must say that you and my mother in law were doubles in so many ways, especially your looks. They say everyone has a twin somewhere and believe me you and Catherine were twinlets, even down to your actions.
You four gals were so realistic in portraying your characters and could NEVER be replaced. The beautiful memories of this precious time together with my daughter(who is now 34 years old) and you girls can never be replaced in my heart. My heart was broken when Bea passed away as I have always felt you four would and could live forever on this earth.
I am praying for a speedy recovery for you and know that God will see to it that “Blanche” bounces back very soon.
