Actor Nicolas Cage is back in the news today, and it is not for standard Hollywood gossip. Cage revealed that he is in significant debt to the IRS, and believes he still owes almost $14 million to the federal government for back taxes.
Cage’s tax problem has been well known to the general public. Last August, the IRS made public their demand letter to Cage which requested $6.2 million for unpaid taxes from 2007.
TMZ reports that the current outstanding balance relates largely to unpaid taxes from 2002 and 2004. Cage also has reportedly defaulted on a tax related $2 million loan in October.
The actor seems committed to repaying his debt saying that he has paid over $70 million in taxes over the course of his career an that he will bring all outstanding balances current. Cage claims that his tax issue is due to financial mismanagement by his former business manager, Samuel Levin. Cage is currently in a legal battle with his former manager.
Nicolas Cage is well known for being one of Hollywood’s highest grossing actors for his roles in blockbusters such as the “National Treasure” films, “Con Air,” “The Rock,” and “Face Off.”
