Spider-Man Reboot Has Its Director

After the recent announcement that the “Spider-Man” franchise was getting a reboot and starting over without director Sam Raimi or actors Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, Sony has confirmed that Mark Webb will take over the helm.

Webb who made his big screen debut by directing “500 Days of Summer” will direct the next three “Spider-Man’ films which will delve into the life of Peter Parker in high school and how he discover his powers.

Webb spoke about the decision “This is a dream come true and I couldn’t be more aware of the challenge, responsibility, or opportunity. Sam Raimi’s virtuoso rendering of Spider-Man is a humbling precedent to follow and build upon. The first three films are beloved for good reason. But I think the Spider-Man mythology transcends not only generations but directors as well. I am signing on not to ‘take over’ from Sam. That would be impossible. Not to mention arrogant. I’m here because there’s an opportunity for ideas, stories, and histories that will add a new dimension, canvas, and creative voice to Spider-Man.”

The script has been written by James Vanderbilt and will be produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin. No casting has been done yet for the film that is set to begin filming later this year.
