“Survivor” Contestant Jennifer Lyon Loses Breast Cancer Battle

Jennifer Lyon, who was a member of CBS’s “Survivor,” has passed away at the age of 37 after a bout with cancer. Lyon, who finished fourth on “Survivor Palau,” developed breast cancer in 2005, which was the same year she was on the hit TV show.

According to her biography on the CBS website, Lyon was raised in the Columbia River city of The Dalles and that she graduated from Oregon State University. Lyon also attended Portland State University and Western Oregon University. Prior to joining the cast of “Survivor Palau,” Lyon spent time as a nanny and graduate student.

In 2005, when Lyon learned of her diagnosis, she became an advocate of breast cancer awareness. After learning of her illness, Lyon underwent treatment almost immediately. She also held many fundraisers and did everything she could with her publicity to help others with breast cancer. Lyon always regarded her experience on the show as what gave her the strength to deal with breast cancer.

Lyon publicly talked about her breast cancer and thought she first noticed symptoms of the disease in 2004 when she felt something wrong in her breast. Lyon at the time though the imperfection was just some scar tissue which was related to her breast implants.
