CNN’s Anderson Cooper Saves Young Boy In Haiti

CNN news anchorman, Anderson Cooper, pulled a boy to safety in while covering Haiti after the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that ravaged the country.

Cooper witnessed a fight that broke out between police and looters which quickly turned violent. The looting was so bad, robbers were actually getting robbed. Police would fire warning shots into the air which only temporarily stopped the fighting.

At one point during the chaos, Cooper saw one of the looters standing on the roof of a building when they threw what appeared to be part of a concrete block into the crowd. The block hit a small child in the head and knocked him to the ground. It was then that Cooper dropped his camera and ran to the child. Cooper said he helped the child stand but the child was clearly unable to walk. He was bleeding and confused. Cooper carried the child away from the violence behind the barricade. Someone then took the child from Cooper. It is unclear where the child was taken or what happened to him.

Haiti was rocked by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake last week. The entire area has been turned to rubble. Desperation of the Haitian people have led them to looting and violence.

Anderson Cooper is a gallant gentleman.
I am sure his Mother is very, very proud of her son…as I, a Canadian reading this sure is!!
    Way to go Cooper !!

  3. luls says:

of anderson cooper wants to help them he should get out his money and hand over $10bills which can buy a month’s food supply

    • Vee says:

How do you know he hasn’t? What he did was brave and foolish without a thought for his own safety! He saved a life and it could have been yours or someone you love if it had happened where you live. Not everyone who has money or is privileged is selfish. But there sure are a lot of us, me included, who scrape by, applaud him and what he did regardless of his monetary value or status. Wake up and stop being so angry!

    • bibol says:

You should hand over your money. Do not know where somebody has to give their money away.

    • Mitchell says:

You have got to be kidding me, he put his self in harms way by attempting to save this boys life and you are talking about $10.00, how do you know what all he has done since being there? Look at the mans record and you can tell he is a Patriotic, caring, loving and I must add funny man. He has the whole package. So lay off unless it’s you that is going to go over there to help or you pay the $10.00.

  4. giggles says:

I knew I loved Anderson Cooper for a reason.

  5. Alice says:

Firstly – God Bless everyone who are giving to Haiti to help these desparate people through a horrendous time. My prayers and whatever I can do is with them, including my donation. This may seem so trivial and unimportant in this situation but I can’t help to comment – who wrote this column? They need to catch up on their spelling. When someone “throws” something, (past tense), it’s spelled “threw” – not “through”. I’m a little surprised since this comes from a people who are experts at their jobs. I know it’s a ridiculous thing but it is just so typical of how sad our education is in today’s world.

  6. JustinG says:

Hero of the day! Good job Anderson, that takes some courage, well done.

  7. Leah Gluchoff says:

Anderson displayed immense compassion, above and beyond the requirements of his job during and after Hurricane Katrina. He continues to display that compassion and moral bravery today. Glad to know that it obviously is an integrity that is seared into his soul. Bravo, Mr. Cooper. Wish the human race had more people like you…

  8. Casey Brumbaugh says:

This incident happened about 4 days ago and was covered live on CNN. Good work. Kudos to Anderson and Sanjay and the rest of the newscrew.

  9. lukebandit says:

if CNN this year asks Kathy Griffin to host New Years Eve 2010 with Anderson Cooper, I will never watch CNN again. Anderson Cooper DESERVES GOLD A MEDAL for the outstanding coverage that he has done since the earthquake happened. it would be in EXTREMELY BAD TASTE to have “THE VULGAR MOUTH” be on with Anderson Cooper to celebrate the new year on the same year of the earthquake. i always watch FOX NEWS, but because of ANDERSON COOPER, I have watched CNN ONLY. please don’t have kathy on for new years. she said something bad year before last and then the next year she says somehing bad and it was against a child. even in the Bible, Jesus says if you offend a child, it is better for you to place a millstone upon your neck and throw yourself into the deepest part of the ocean than to deal with me (Jesus). Anderson Cooper is in Haiti saving children’s LIVES! all kathy potty mouth griffin does is curse children and Jesus.

    • seattle crone says:

Actually, Ms. Griffin has entertained our US troops in war zones and has visited our wounded soldiers in hospital.

I respect your right to quote from your religious tract. Where do inland people to cast themselves? Do they haul themselves, millstone and all to the coast, eh? Lighten up, good grief. WWJD, he might have a sense of humor, after all, he was a man.

  10. G Venneman says:

Give me a break! It’s all about the ratings. I saw that clip and what was he supposed to do- stand there? Go on pointing out, “Oh hey, Here’s a boy bleeding to death!” ? He just did what any right-thinking person would do.

  11. lukebandit says:

in the previous posting i am pleading with CNN not to invite kathy griffin for the new years eve celebration and i would like to add that i think that CNN should not have her on any CNN show period. she is a loose cannon and disgusting and used a small childs name as a curse word when she clearly knew what she was doing and she even gets tv time to curse Jesus Christ.

  12. SaintsChick says:

Kudos to Cooper! Many other journalists would just keep it rolling just to get the story. He put himself in the middle of a violent situation to bring the child to safety. Bless both the child and his hero.

  13. Camille says:

I’m not surprised, he’s such a sweetheart. and a very hot one too.

  14. Michelle says:

Great story !!!He seems like a super nice guy !

  15. chet says:

He put down the camera. nice. good man.

  16. Catlania says:

Thank you for showing a genuine act of human kindness in this world.
Mr. Cooper seemed to be more concerned with the young boys safety, first than his own.
We need more people to act as Mr. Cooper did.

  17. Phyllis says:

Anderson Cooper’s stories are always in debt and fair. I am astonished at his courage and heart with helping the young boy who was injured in the street, truly was an act unselfishness. Thanks and God Bless you and the Haitian people.

  18. Phyllis says:

addendum to previous note: His stories are in depth not in debt.

  19. kreepy says:

    anderson cooper is my hero!

  20. Caleb says:

I randomly found Cooper’s Bio called Dispatches From the Edge. It’s a great book, proves that hes not just a shiny media man. Very eye opening stuff. Pick up a copy if you get a chance, Good Luck Coop.

  21. Julie says:

You are the best ‘Vanderbilt’ that ever lived! Your family’s name is restored because of you, do you know that? It only took 70 years but between your mother and yourself, that name will mean so much more than the money connected to it for generations to come. I wish every man in the world were like you Anderson. You’re a very special person.

  22. Margaret Jones says:

Kathy Griffin…is a little more than a potty mouth.
So gross and disrespectful. Not at all in the same league as Anderson Cooper in any catagory…and when Larry King has her on his show, off goes our TV.

  23. Debby says:

Anderson is so helpful to many people going out and risking his life.

  24. fred2dend says:

cnn thank you! it all started with you ti’ll then. Mr Cooper and Dr Gupta, you guys are my heroes! passion, compassion, good hearth: what you done is priceless…God bless you. i wish one day before i die i have the chance to meet you.

  25. Hansa Thomas says:

Anderson, may God richly bless you for your outstanding journalism, courage, and having such a great big heart toward Haiti. Interest in adoption to help save a child from Haiti, can you provide information on how I can do this?
