Joaquin Phoenix apparently has not completely abandoned his acting career to pursue his career as a rap star, he is at least staying on the small screen in some small way. Joaquin and others have been appearing in public service announcements promoting the concept of funding further research necessary to combat depression and mental illness. The particular charity that Phoenix, Miley Cyrus and Liv Tyler appeared for was to “Write Love on Her Arms.” This group alerts people about the dangers of mental illness and how so many people need to be aware that the programs to combat these illnesses are grossly underfunded. Liv Tyler, Miley Cyrus and Joaquin also want to let people know that it should be okay to seek help for mental illness.

The media has noted that Phoenix showed up in the PSA looking cleanly shaven and very respectful. This was in direct contrast to the way he appeared during his last national television appearance on the David Letterman Show on CBS. People should also commend Miley Cyrus for using her mega celebrity for such an important cause.
