Meet the new and improved Joaquin Phoenix — back in the spotlight minus the beard and shades he sported on David Letterman’s “Late Show” a year ago where he made fun of his strange on-air behavior. At age 35, he recently worked with Miley Cyrus and Liv Tyler on a Youtube charity video called “To Write Love on Her Arms” for an online competition for a one-million dollar grant in the fight to prevent suicide. TWLOHA is a non-profit organization that is aimed at helping people who struggle with depression, addiction, and suicide.
In the advertisement, Miley is teaching Phoenix, who pretends he doesn’t know her, how to log on to the group’s website to support this cause. He comes back later and gives Liv Tyler, his ex-girlfriend, misinformation on how to use the website which prompts Cyrus to return once again to show both of them how to access it.
Says Phoenix, “It should be entertaining and fun and not just a (public service announcement.”
He had made the announcement in 2009 that he was leaving the movie scene to become a rapper, though the new series of ads do not offer any clues as to what Joaquin has planned for this year.
