Over the weekend, “The Runaways” became the talk of the Sundance Film Festival.
The movie shares the story of an all-girl teenage punk band that found fame in the 70s. It chronicles their rise to stardom, in what was at the time, a male-dominated rock scene. The price of fame was high though, and it, ultimately, led to their demise.
Dakota Fanning stars as Cherie Currie, the bands lead singer. Kristin Stewart stars alongside her, in the role of Joan Jett.
The two actresses, both of which starred in the Twilight Saga, portray different roles then fans may be used to.
The film focuses on how the teens were led astray during their quick rise to stardom. They had slipped into a life of abuse, sex and drugs. Their manager took advantage of their vulnerabilities and cashed in on their sex appeal.
The descent into drugs and alcohol was a career ender for Curie. However, it became a story of obstacles to overcome for Jett. She eventually went on to a band known as The Blackhearts, and is still rocking out today.
Stewart and Fanning can be seen in their portrayals when the film reaches the box office in March.

Joan Jett Movie 'The Runaways' Makes Waves At Sundance

Yeah! i remember watching them live back then and thinking that they were high on something. I’m not sure whether it was liquor or drugs. I know Joan is still around but whatever’s happened to Currie?
She’s a chainsaw artist and still rocks
