Legendary songstress Etta James has been hospitalized for a dangerous condition known as sepsis. Her condition is the result of a urinary tract infection. The condition is treatable and she is expected to recover.

She has been in a treatment program for the last month for her addiction to painkillers. The 72 year old soul singer has had addiction problems throughout her life. She has been in and out of rehab throughout her career for a variety of addictions. Her struggles were depicted in the hit film “Cadillac Records,” in which Beyonce Knowles played the part of James.

James later criticized Beyonce for performing “At Last,” at the presidential inauguration ball. The song was one of the best selling singles in James’s career, and she felt she should have performed for the newly elected president.

Her son Donto James, has been talking with the media about his mother’s medical problems in order to shed some light on an illness that affects millions of elderly every year. James was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease a year ago. According to her son, Alzheimer’s is what prompted the mean spirited tirade directed at Beyonce, and what ultimately cost her the job to perform at the ball.
