Johnny Depp, who is one of the world’s most famous and successful actors, has come to the defense of filmmaker Roman Polanski.
Depp contends that Polanski is not a sexual predator, despite the charges that the former Oscar winning filmmaker faces. Depp and Polanski worked together on the 1999 film, “The Ninth Gate,” and the two bonded during production.
Depp continued to defend Polanski by saying that Polanski is 75 or 76 years old, has a healthy relationship with his wife, and has two kids. Depp further stated that Polanski is never “out on the street.” Depp believes the court should take into consideration Polanski’s current life and that they should drop the 32 year old charges.
Roman Polanski plead guilty in 1977 to having unlawful sex with a 13-year old, but fled the United States before he could be fully sentenced. Polanski, who had been well involved in the film industry since the incident, was arrested in Zurich in 2009. Since being arrested, Polanski has remained under house arrest in Switzerland.
One month ago, a Los Angeles based judge announced that Polanski must return to the United States and face proper sentencing. It is unclear whether Polanski will receive additional sentencing for fleeing.

13 year olds in this country have sex everyday and it is consenual. What he did was wrong but did he rape her? My God it was 32 years ago, why now, he should have been dealt with long ago. we in this country are so self rightous and this is also the country where people preach morals and values and then appear in the news as cheaters, sex offenders, criminals.
Yes, he should have been “dealt with long ago.” It is HIS OWN FAULT that he wasn’t. He fled the country all those years ago, and has refused to return ever since. The US Justice Department reached out to him many times over the years, and promised no additional jail time if he returned to court to have the matter resolved. And Polanski REFUSED! So at this point he deserves punishment just for being a fugitive all this time.
And yes, he DID rape her. Have you heard her account of what happened? It wasn’t just about her being underage, or about him giving her alcohol and drugs. She repeatedly told him to stop, and he didn’t. That is rape. Period. Her story has never changed. That is what she said then, that is what she says now. Are you saying she is/was lying?
I can agree that Americans and the American media are often hypocritical and self-righteous. But I don’t see how demanding a child rapist be brought to justice is either of those things.
I used to admire Depp, but for him to side with a child predator is really sick. I always like to reverse the role so people can better understand the situation. When Depp’s kids are 13 would he turn them over to Polanski to have his way with them? If he would then I understand his mentality!

Great, the last thing we need is for Polanski to be freed due to his “current life” and therefore granting future sexual predators the opportunity to use this case as a basis for why THEY should get off scott-free.
