Taylor Swift’s record label is defending the singer after media criticism of her Grammy performance.

Scott Borchetta, the CEO of Big Machine Records, told the Associated Press that the criticisms were over the top.

He defended the singer’s duet with Stevie Nicks, saying that playing at the Grammys is not American Idol. “Maybe she’s not the best technical singer, but she’s probably the best emotional singer because everybody else who gets up there and is technically perfect, people don’t seem to want more of it.”

He added, “She is the voice of this generation.”
