Fox newsâ coverage of President Obamaâs recent push to repeal the militaryâs âDonât Ask Donât Tellâ policy has drawn scrutiny and criticism, but no where was the one sided coverage brought to light more effectively than on a recent episode of the comedy sketch show âSaturday Night Liveâ. During the opening of the show, a panel made up of faux Fox News personalities Oliver North, Greta Van Susteren, Karl Rove and Attractive Blonde Lady did battle with token Democrat Robert Gibbs.
The panel discussed the repercussions in a reactionary context that made little to no sense with choice quotes such as the one by Kristin Wiig playing Van Susteren asking “Should homosexuals be allowed to prance around our military like its Cirque Du Soilel?” Oliver North commented that gays should not be allowed to serve until âwe win our two wars.â When asked when that would be, he responded ânever.â
With the Attractive Blonde Lady tossing out non sequiturs like âItâs Robert Ayers all over again!â and Robert Gibbs being cut off whenever he began to speak, the spot was a well carried out skewering of the incredibly popular news network. Those who support Fox News will no doubt feel offended, while those who have a bone to pick with the right leaning channel will most likely look at the skit as nothing but cathartic.
